Golddigga
Hi all, I own a 94 n/a. Somebody has told me that because of the cars age that it does not need its emissions tested for an MOT? Is this bullshit?

Jake
Yes it's BS but the age of the car may mean that it's emissions levels are allowed to be higher than a newer model

DaveK
1992 was when CAT's where introduced in the UK i belive Exactly. A pre-92 car is tested to non cat levels (even if the manufacturer fitted a cat). Hence my 964 has had the cat removed but still passes MOTs. A post 92 car is tested to cat levels. In theory - it doesn't have to have the cat fitted for the MOT, but it doesn't have much chance of passing the MOT without it.
martin_a
They updated the rules then? You did used to be able to test a 94 import without a CAT... had to be M plate though. edit still on the motuk website http://www.motuk.co.uk/exhaust_emmissions.htm has to be a car that isn't in the system though so an import might make it. depends if they have added it to the computer or not. m.
