Wez
Hey All, Can I use 12v illuminated rocker switches with the AEM switch inputs for activating various functions like antilag and boost control. If so how are they wired as from memory I think the AEM switch inputs are activated by grounding them out. http://www.blctechnology.com/images/rockerswitch.jpg Thanks
Muffleman
Hello mate, I'm doing the same, have bought the switches and made a panel for them. All I was going to do was ground the switches and then wire into the aem, you don't need a +ve feed to the switch as the aem sends 5v if ground is ON. Then just a case of assigning the pin out to a switch no. Unless I'm wrong
Wez
This is something I am not 100% sure on. I thought you wired one side the switch to a ground and then to the pin on the ECU, when you flick the switch it grounds the pin and activates the software switch on the ECU. Think these are low side switch inputs. There are also high side inputs which take a positive feed instead of ground I think. Need to read into it more. tooquicktostop
Dan is fitting my AEM at present at Turbofit with 4 switches in the arm rest, I will PM him and see how he does it, Jonty has had this done already by Dan

Wez
So how do we wire up a 3 terminal illuminated switch?
tooquicktostop
These are the two switches Turbofit are adding, the 4 rocker is to the AEM and goes in the arm rest and the starter in the roof lining behind the light , have PM'd Dan
Wez
I have just ordered 5 amber rockers, will see how I get on with them, I have no stereo so will be mounting them on a double DIN carbon panel.
terribleturner
After seeing Matt's i've done something similar to go in under the stereo. So it really is just ecu to switch to ground.

Got any pics Sounds like the switches are simple to wire up, I am also looking into whats involved in wiring up the traction control sensitivity input. I picked up a 9pin serial extension today so I can have a ECU port on the dash as well
terribleturner
Loving the idea of the serial port Wez, i may have to redesign it Am also thinking of mounting a small purge button for the NOS on there too. It's still a work in progress. Specially finding the right lettering but here's a pic taken last night in Sabrinas car.
Muffleman
That looks great ! Mine is smaller and houses just four switches, I have a double din stereo so mine will be underneath.
terribleturner
I've got a small toggle switch which goes to the on position only if held in place, so think i'll mount that near the top left above the NOS button for the purge. But now with the serial port idea i may move them all to the right or maybe left and put it sitting vertical
Wez
I have got a sheet of carbon fibre 25x25cm ready to cut up, I dont have a stereo so lots of room
Wez
Not sure how to cut the hole for the serial yet, I have the terminal posts and will hopefully look ok when done.

MONKEYmark
any wiring diagrams how to pics for things like nos purge or any other ideas would be good to see.could be good to have switches for overdrive or transbrake or things like line locks. Wez
Not done mine yet, may have a crack at starting it tomorrow although should really install my brake ducts first.
Wez
The switches arrived this morning, I have attached some pics. As the AEM switch inputes work on switching to ground only I was thinking I can reverse the wiring through the switch, I will test this first though. They are supposed to be wired like this :- + : positive feed A : switched positive feed G : ground Can anyone see any issue with this wiring instead :- + : ground feed A : switched ground to ECU G : positive feed to illuminate switch I have tested the switch with a meter and there is no continuity between the ground port and the other ports with the switch in either position. As I am only switching grounds would I be correct in assuming I dont need to fuse it any where, I am planning on using the cig lighter as my positive feed for switch illumination only. Wez
Right I just tested this with the wiring above. With the switch on and illuminted I get 0v on the Acc to ground which is good, but when switched off I get 12v to the Acc to ground. Can this be wired like this as I have to make sure I dont send 12v down to the ECU?
Wez
With further testing I think I will have to fit a diode on the Acc output to stop the +12v going to the ECU when the switch is off. Bugger
