SuperSupra
Ok, just need to get this off my chest:- What is the problem with some people? There are a large number of people on here who like me, don't know a great deal about the technical workings of a car, let alone a car like a Supra. Why do some people feel the need (and I'm not going to mention names) to belittle people like me and assume we know all the parts and what they do and how to repair them? I'm getting increasingly frustrated with people who seem to have no respect for people who simply love the Supra and bought one because they love the look and the way they drive. Not all people who own a Supra know all the parts and everything about them! Some people need to come down a peg or two and stop being so arrogant just because you know more about cars than some others. Big bloody deal! This isn't just a one off thing by the way before anyone says that, it's something that's bugged me for some time. Just getting a bit fed up with some people - rather than saying "yeah that's easy just remove the so-and-so and clean the whats-it-called and then take the thingy-majig out and blah dee blah" it's just like speaking to people in a different language sometimes. Remember there are plenty of people on here who know next to nothing about cars. I know a little, but far from a lot! Rant over, feel free to add comments, either for or against what I have said. Oh, and please, if you're only going to say something silly and pointless, don't bother.

michael
You can always ask for more detail / clarification, people with answers don't always have an hour to write a Haynes manual for every question that appears.
jamesmark
Can you see a standing ovation online? Well said, however on the technical side I am very grateful for peoples time for there answer, I just get Sarah's dad to interpitate it lol. I do agree up the snobery side, there is one member that is a pain in the ass sometimes but when it comes to tech stuff he does come down a peg or two as you put it. More detail? I only wanted a rough guide (in the post in question that is ) I was looking for advice, a bit of help, a few tips that's all! It seems very difficult at times to get anything out of some people other than things I don't understand!!!!!! People just have to bare in mind that there are so many people on here that don't know a great deal! And I'm not asking for an hour of anyone's time, but if there's a technical section, surely people can post explanations as to how to resolve problems rather than pointless posts that help nobody? Pete
Are there any examples? [edit] - ah, I see - http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=94476 To be fair any post that says "I can hear a noise" will prompt similar response. It's not like you can diagnose noises too well on a text based forum.
Chewie
Yeah I've noticed that. It's all about the abused becoming the abuser. It helps them feel superior and in control. Same as work place bullies. And it seems to be the same people. Also being on the net you have a comfort zone that you can scream with apparent impunity and not get your lights punched out. There's a lot of anger here. Get some therapy.

I am grateful too, very much so, but am not so grateful for the people who don't actually realise that the person asking the question may not know the difference between a clutch and a backbox!!!! I'm not quite that bad by the way Just seems strange how some people seem to get a kick out of others not knowing as much about cars as they do! Which thread are we talking about? Should I be feeling guilty? TBH I do sometimes give folks not very helpful answers but I only do it to the guys that write lazy, Ill thought-out or txt spk questions. Care to elaborate? Like I said I don't want to name names but I'm sure the people I'm referring to know who they are. Think I'll just stop posting problems on here, and concentrate more on reading the more interesting things like 'off-topic', and the members only section. Oh, and the parts for sale that's always good.
Scooter
er i think you'll find no one is sitting there knowing what your squeeky clutch problem is and won't tell you! we all just don't know or have vague maybe's....... "Soon too" suggested you narrow down the squeek to a specific area and suggested you use a friend to assist (this would help rule out/in some of the maybe's) I photo of the area you then think its coming from, regardless of whether you know the name of any part in that area would be sufficient for us to give further advice of possibilities....... ..........ie you need the help, so you help us to help you........ To be fair mate you're the last person I'd be referring to, if anything you're the opposite. When I had problems with my speedo, you were most helpful, giving me advice in plain english rather than the drivvle that some people spirt out. I don't really want to give examples as that would be like naming names and that's not me. Just have a look at a few 'technical' queries mate and see the posts on there. I bet it won't be long before you see someone posting in 'car speak' that probably the minority of people on here will understand!

But as I said man all I wanted was a little advice as to what it could be, if someone said "try this, and if that happens then it's probably this which needs that to fix it" that would be great! And also, it's not just the clutch thing, that's just the catalyst for this outburst. There are many other examples in the past, and not just involving me! Gets my back up when people seem to enjoy talking down to people.

I also asked if this was a common problem, hoping to provoke the response in the form of perhaps - "Yeah I had that, I just squited some WD40 on the....." which is what I initially asked for! Jake
Ah, I'm up to speed with things again now. (Note to self: read all the thread before replying) I can 100% understand your frustration John (been there, t-shirt etc) but to be fair Ben kinda had a point. I think it's easy to take things the wrong way when you're the guy with the problem and to everyone else it seems like nothing. Ben's a sound bloke and I'm sure he wasn't taking the piss really. It's all in how you read it (says me - the worst offender for taking things the wrong way )
mathew
i cant really identify a time when its happend to me on here but i cant help but thinking of the old line ''if you've got nothing good to say then dont say it at all'' when i read some of the replies to various questions. i feel a minority go out of their way to get a reaction. just my opinion of course

RobSheffield
Phew I read the thread but im not really sure which bit it 'could be' and im sure nobody else will be able to advise that well, this is simply because it could be any of the many moving parts in the clutch system. I think Bens idea was pretty simple, in suggesting you identify if its inside or outside the car. and not down to the exact part either, cos then you will know what it is For example, the noise appears to be coming from mid way up the box on the left side half way back..... not the noise is coming from the small shaft protruding 3cm up and 9cm back

People have massively misunderstood what I was looking for in the thread in question. I am genuinely going to stop posting 'help me' questions as it only ever seems to result in me feeling this way due to certain people. I'd rather try (probably in vain) to figure it out myself! Also, as I stressed before dude, I was asking for advice, not a step by step guide. Just a few tips as to possible solutions would've been cool. Mainly though I was hoping someone would say that they had a similar problem and fixed it quite easily!
