RedM
Can I get a new provider that offers solid, traditional ADSL connections or have they all switched to the shite that is Maxdsl? I'm pissed off that wind, rain, noise, xmas lights, the day of the week or the colour of my pants can all cause BT's hardware to decide I have line issues and throttle my speed. I only want my old 2mb service back FFS but lately I getting capped at 500kbps. I am not happy. Is cable BB any better?
Tom S
Martin, long time no speak, sorry your dsl is f*%%$d mate, but perhaps that is the story of life. Wakefield has so many problems at the moment! hope to see you at Squires some time in the New Year!!
JustGav
I've got both BT ADSL and NTL cable... At the end of the day, all the end user wants is connectivity... however I use my NTL as my primary, because it is so much more stable, after all it is coming down Coax wire meant for it. Whereas my ADSL signal varies like a bastid... My recommendation, NTL BB, and even the customer service is getting better.
PJ
I have cable BB with NTL, a 4mb line and it's always connected and always consistant speed, also, unlike BT lines when you buy a 4mb package you get 4mb, it's not an up to 4mb cop out like BT & co do. I tried other options and ended up going back to my cable connection.
RedM
Wakefield has so many problems at the moment! Hi ya Tom, Can you elaborate on that statement? My exchange is actually in Royston which is South Yorkshire. I got told last week that there was a BT fault but that it had been fixed. I don't know area of BT you work in but how is Maxdsl perceived in general? Do people like it, hate it or just accept that sometimes it's great and sometimes it isn't? I'll be at Squires from Feb onwards. Be good to see you again.
RedM
Can't get NTL in the area. Pah!!

Be good to see you again. that I knew would get your attention. lol I'm a GS Account Manager dealing in Retail Accounts. mainly London. my DSL at home is on all day everyday offering 6.5Meg and runs fine, so it could be a load of things, if it persists, drop me a line with the details, I'll try BT Wholesale who provide the DSL for everyone virtually. and see what can be seen. (And before any clever so and so comes back. Cable & Wireless buy loads of BT DSL)
JustGav
Can't get NTL in the area. Pah!! Sorry my fault, maybe not NTL, but any cable in your area.... NTL I believe owns all the cable companies now, but hasn't renamed them all (such as telewest)
RedM
We can't get any cable in this area. Oh the joys of living in the country.
Ric
ALL ISP's use bt products so they will all be variants of the maxdsl product. Only way you can get round it is if the ISP is doing LLU products (local loop unbundling) then you are using the ISP's own equipment in the exchange its few and far between in yorkshire though. RedM
Surely I can be put back to the traditional, non-Max version of DSL?
Ric
probably not, all companys are changing to it now although ring them, worth a try i suppose. When did you change? the first 15days or so of maxdsl provisioning are unstable due to the line trying to find your max stable speed
RedM
Back in May! When I get a stable connection it is at 2500kbps which ain't bad! What pisses me off is that Maxdsl cuts the speeds back over as little as an hour if you have 'line issues' but then takes three or more days of steady connections to move your capped rate back up again. If you have even one issue during that time it starts from scratch.
Ric
weird then, ask them if they can redo the test again its called a delta report if i remember correctly obviously somthing went wrong with it. Seems to be swings and roundabouts ive never had any problems always sync at 7.8meg and bandwidth tests show 6.5meg all the time
chilli
but if it is a line condition problem (which it probably is) it doesn't really matter who makes/supplies the equipment right? perhaps you should get the line tested (problem is I think they only do something when it starts to affect voice, you could try and convince them it is I guess...) my regular 8mb.s-1 adsl line is rock solid regardless of the weather so it doesn't always have to be bad. I was terrible a while back but they must have done something to the line itself
Pete
Surely I can be put back to the traditional, non-Max version of DSL? Nildram do. We resell their product. Very good company. Have you tried a different filter? Are you running through an extension? Maybe the weather conditions influence it - in which case the green box may have flooding? Is your wire anywhere near anything like a storage heater (can cause issues)

I suppose a flooded box could be the issue. Wire is free of hazards.
chilli
Oh Nildram, I'm with them, maybe that's why my service has been spot on, some 3 years or so on now and not a moments trouble - highly recommeded! and for filters, that made a massive difference on my setup, don't scrimp on these. highly recommended http://www.adslnation.com/products/xf-1e.php they do inline filter sockets too
