Kitt
I have read all the other threads on the subject of Air Con not being as cold as it should be and I have checked that the air con does in actual fact kick in with increased revs, and there is a free flow of gas in the sight window in front of the radiator. Could this still need re-gassing as in the current tropical temperatures the air con does not get very cold at all. ( I know I could just take the roof off but air con is nice sometimes ! ) Please help !:flame Dev
Darren
Yep it could need re gassing!
Terminator
Run an aircon diagnostic check.

Kitt
Thanks everyone, I'll pop it down to my local air-con specialist and get them to take a peek. Enjoy the weekend
Terminator
With ignition off press and hold the AUTO and F/Air Recycle buttons on the top row of heater controls turn on ignition release the buttons when the light flash A code ( flashing lights) will appear. Post up the results and we can tell you what’s wrong. Do this in bright light or you will show a sun sensor error. BTW nothing flash git about it, try a search. Kitt
After I turned on the ignition all of the heater control lights flashed 3 times then on it's own the front windsreen heater control button ( far right of all the buttons ) started flashing constantly. What does this mean ????

Try redoing the test but with someone shining a torch onto the solar sensor. Ben..
Kitt
.... same result shining a torch on the sensor. ( if this has any bearing, the climate control seems to work fine adjusting itself, just doesn't get very cold on a hot day. ) The saga continues ....... hopefully " Terminator " has the diagnostic answer. I'VE JUST GIVEN YOU THE ANSWER!!! Shining the light onto the sensor is the way to tell if it just a little too dark to do the test. At least it isn't saying it's low on gas or something, if it hasn't been regassed lately (last 2 years) then it may be worth just doing that. Ben.. Kitt
Am I right in assuming the gas type is R134A and it needs roughly 750 grams ? ( for a J-Spec, 93, NA, JZA80 ) ...............
Soonto_HAS_soop
Yes it is R-134a gas, and it holds 22.9-26.7 ozs of gas, just do a quick calculation to figure out what that is in grams. Ben..
Wez
I though R134A as well but when I went to Toyota today they said because its an import it might have R12 instead.
JamesG
Mine was filled with R134A a few weeks ago. I think R134A is printed on a label on the underside of the bonnet. James.
JohnK
As james said there should be a sticker with 134a on the underside of the bonnet. Had mine done recently and the correct ammount is 750g.
Terminator
If you are getting screen heat flashing with a torch on it, that would indicate a fault in that circuit. That would explain why you have air con but not super cooling on a hot day ie the solar sensor is not sending a signal to say it is hot. I will have a look at my charts when I get home from the booze cruise tonight and see if there are other faults associated with that signal. If you run your car with air con on max cool at 2000 rpm for a minute or so your front sigh glass should run clear of bubbles, if not, your gas my be low, but not enough to stop the presure switch form working. Kitt
Just started the car and let it warm up then put the air-con on full blast and ran the revs @ 2000 rpm for just over a minute. Looked at the sight glass and there was free-flowing liquid but it was frothing up a bit to the left side of the glass. The pipes coming off the sight glass unit were freezing cold as you would expect, but the car remained boiling hot ! Let me know what you think Terminator and hope you had a good booze cruise ! Terminator
Hummm hang over!!!! The fluid should be clear no froth or bubbles. I checked the chart and the defrost screen light blinking has no relation to fluid pressure, just the sensor or its connection circuit. Try it in bright daylight! or a mains inspection lamp. Kitt
Ah ha .......... just did the diagnostic check again in the summer heat of the Bristol sun and now the " AUTO " button flashes. Would this suggest re-gassing is required ??? ( we'll get there eventually ! )

Keith C
Well both the lights on the auto button flash. Looking in the sightglass after running the car for a minute or so @ 2000 shows what looks like a rushing water type effect. What does all that mean?
