Digsy
I just bought the wheels off Soop Dogg's black car (Pulse's old Supra). They are 2-piece jobbies by BBS and have 12 pointed internal torx style bolts around the rim. I want to take these apart and refurbish them. Had a go at taking out one of the bolts today using a very snug fitting allen key type drive and all I managed to do was round out the head of the bolt - brilliant! I'm going to call BBS tomorrow to see if they sell the drive and the replacement screws, but has anyone else on here tried to take a BBS wheel apart? looking at the website it looks like they use this kind of fastener on most of their wheels. I had imagined that even by using only 6 of the 12 points on the drive head I would be able to get the screw out as it is only an M6 size or thereabouts. Maybe there is some thread lock on them. It felt f-tight.
matt
Might be just a spline drive socket ........ available at any decent hardware shop. Maybe even at Harrys? You can usually buy a mixed set of spline and torx bits quite cheaply. The bolts are steel going into ally .... they tend to get tight due to reaction between different metals
Digsy
I'll have a look in a tool store tomorrow. According to the BBS website, the bolts are titanium. Didn't feel very much like bloody titanium to me! If they are steel, then yeah, they may have corroded in.

Digsy
Just in case I missed it, eh Ian? I am now the proud owner of a set of 12 point spline drives, and am heading out to the garage as you read this... Let's see how fast I can fook the others up. Digsy
Well with the spline drive the screws come out sweet as a nut (no pun intended). Surprise surprise eh? Today's lesson was entitled: "Using the right tool for the right job" I even, thank *insert your preferred deity here*, managed to get the rounded-out screw out and it looks like it will be usable again.
