Flip
Hi Guys, Looking at getting some bits for BPU in the January sales, and I got onto the Walbro pump debate. Now I was all ready to buy one for £65 from Whifbitz, but after reading a good few of the threads about it, and then this:- http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/fuel_pumps_test_2/index.html ...and then hearing peeps complaining about the noise of Walbro over stock I'm wondering if I might be better staying stock? By the sounds of things I'd be advised to take it all apart and give the filter a damn good clean up and checking all is well, but the stock part sounds like it has a better flow rate and its quieter than the "upgrade" option of a Walbro? I know the UK is more powerful than the J-spec one, but is the J-spec one more powerful than the Walbro (assuming all is running well of course) - Just want someone to set me right, don't mind spending the money if needed, but don't want to spend it if its not going to help and is going to whine constantly in my ear - I have my other half to do that. Jake
That article will be referring to UK/US spec pump. The Walbro is an upgrade to the j-spec pump.
Angarak
I didnt notice any noise increase having upgraded from a stock j-spec pump to a walbro one.
Homer
I didnt notice any noise increase having upgraded from a stock j-spec pump to a walbro one. Some people say they find it the same, other say its louder. I found mine much louder than the stock jap pump.
merckx
I can't hear my Walbro at all.
spidermonkey
nah nor me, should it be louder??
Ian Ian
Cant hear my Walbro pump neither must be working tho LOL Cheers Ian
Flip
So are we saying that if you have a UK pump, stick with it, but if you have a Jap pump, ditch it in favour of the Walbro. And you may or may not find that the Walbro is noisy, depending on how lucky you are...
Mas
never heard this before!! didnt notice any difference once changed mine either.

Jake
I've had a Walbro pump in 3 different j-spec Supras and I've never heard the fuel pump when the engine is running.

Flip
Well that is what I figured, but there are more than a few threads with peeps complaining about the noise! Maybe they have really big ears or something? Anyway, I am pretty deaf after having spend far too much money on car stereos in my "yoof". Bike didn't help either. OK, I'll quit complaining and buy it! So how much louder does the exhaust get after full kitten removal?

Guest mk47
while were talking about this, a bit of an off topic - how long usually would it take to fit a walbro fuel pump? is it difficult? (not planning to do it myself, just so i know how much to pay out in labour)
Flip
Having read a couple of posts the powers that be reckon a couple of hours if you know which end of the spanner to use
Flip
so is it REALLY that loud after decat? Is it like twice as loud, or more, or less?
Guest mk47
so is it REALLY that loud after decat? Is it like twice as loud, or more, or less? mines fully decatted at the moment, but im still on stock boost due to the restrictor ring needing expanding a bit. anyway so far ive not noticed it being much louder, but maybe this is due to the restrictor ring. they do tend to be alot louder after decatting because theres nothing restricting the flow. Guest mk47
having said that, my n/a with double decat & veilside ti sounded like an earthquake!
