msearle
i have recently bought a 96 na auto.ive had it 4 about 3 weeks, and noticed it runs fairly fast, even when warm.it has since got gradually slower.it now idles ,when warm, very slow, even causing vibration.a couple of times,i have gone to pull away after start up,put it in drive, and it stalled.but was ok when i tried again.could it just need speeding up on the idle,or maybe a good service??? thankyou.. Ian W
if you've just got it and are unsure of the service history i'd give it a good service anyway mate. change all fluids and plugs etc. other than that it does sound like a problem with the idle control. Ric
Give the ICV (Idle control Valve) a clean, and as supra-man said, give it a full service with all fluids changed, im not sure if low autobox fluid could give this effect. Change it anyway.
Ian Ian
Try resetting the ECU that might help too, but if it needs a good service it will feel like a different car after that Cheers Ian

Ian C
And any moment now one of you is going to expand on the what and why around that statement seeing as msearle isn't a techie bod I would but I'm eating and then off to a meeting. -Ian
RedM
Can i have a crack at it? Right, there's like some air or something and it kinda has to go all over the place, like and I'd say that somewhere along the journey it's escaping from somewhere. How is that? Tech-mod job for me? LOL, you remind me of my sister and the way she tries to explain things that have gone wrong on her car 'flap flap flap flap flap flap flap!' followed by 'will someone fix it for me...pweeeaase?' LOL I'd actually like to know an explanation for this as mine has done it 2 times in the past, not see any fast or slow revving though
msearle
You have an air leak. hi,thanks for the advise, but could you expand on this,as i would like to get it cured.thankyou
Chris and Alana
Strange, I noticed mine started to idle really slow too except mine's is a twin turbo. I too still get the slight vibration and I can hear that the engine doesnt sound chuffed at idle, it sounds a little rough, its not missfiring as it drives perfect. Could this be the same problem? If it is like MSEARLE said could you please expand on the air leak comment........ please.
