Guest novaessexboy
Could do yea. V. true. I just hate the idea of forking out towards insurance companies. But throwing good after bad money at a car could be just as bad thou really. Good point.
Guest novaessexboy
They dont do importing. They buy cars from up and down the country. Have the ability to fix them up. Have a bodyshop, all the usual. Just dont do the importing side. Plus specialist, sport types, like the Supe isnt really their thing, lol. Old farts, lol
bridlea
im in a similar sort of position of buying a supe, got between 8- 10 grand to spend (would rather keep it a 8ish) and know i want a tt but its just finding a good one.
mikeyb10supra
Insurance is always going to be high regardless its a grp 20 car, as others have said, I would save more and look to spend 8-9k, that should get you a real decent example
Guest novaessexboy
cheers mikey, maybe holding out a few months may be better
mikeyb10supra
cheers mikey, maybe holding out a few months may be better It will be worth the wait trust me just dont buy cheap as you will only be buying someone elses problems, wait till you have enough and then search away
Tricky-Ricky
I would say you would be very lucky to find anything decent in the way of a TT for 6K more like 8K min and more for a manual, have you ever driven RWD cars with a bit of power? if you have always driven FRWD cars be very careful especially if you buy an auto;)
Guest novaessexboy
so say i do hold fire. The question still remains. Which model?? Which engine?? What extras to look for?? What age to go for??
Guest novaessexboy
Never driven a powerful RWD car. Karts at Rayleigh are my only experience with RWD, lol. Why be careful of an Auto?? Do tell, lol.
Bob
Why be careful of an Auto?? Do tell, lol. Kickdown - when the engine accelerates and the gearbox obligingly drops down 1 or more gears, depending on how well you mashed the loud pedal. Seem people seem to struggle with autos and can't tell when the 'box will kickdown; kickdown at the apex of a bend in the wet, for example, is bad. Guest novaessexboy
lol, i get what you mean. Something to consider if the Auto is taking up be me then, hehehe. Cheers Bob + Tricky
Thorin
so say i do hold fire. The question still remains. Which model?? Which engine?? What extras to look for?? What age to go for?? Supra, 2JZ, four wheels, 93+
Jake
so say i do hold fire. The question still remains. Which model?? Which engine?? What extras to look for?? What age to go for??The ideal is the newest manual TT (or single) you can find and afford. Everything else is a compromise.
Guest novaessexboy
Plain and simple. I like the approach. Will hopefully be getting a Merc CLS, but company car, arnd xmas 07. So Supra, 4 wheels, running, will be good, lol.
Guest novaessexboy
So possibly a J-Spec. Prob an Auto. N/A or TT still to be sorted. Anything Im missing??
juanchan
Kickdown - when the engine accelerates and the gearbox obligingly drops down 1 or more gears, depending on how well you mashed the loud pedal. Seem people seem to struggle with autos and can't tell when the 'box will kickdown; kickdown at the apex of a bend in the wet, for example, is bad. I find the auto box quite predictable - it's only when you stand on the accelerator that it kicks right down, second turbo lights up and you shoot off to the horizon. You kinda get a feel for when it's going to kick down depending on engine speed and right foot location. You can still accelerate pretty sharpish with say, half throttle, and get the box to change up just before second turbo comes in. Which is handy on the wet roads we've got at the moment That said, I take corners with a fairly neutral throttle as I've never owned a RWD car before, let alone anything with this sort of power. Don't want to park in any trees if I can help it

Scooter
with your 'connections' in the trade i would tell them to look out for any UK supras they hear of.......some of these do get traded in cheaply. They will probably have high miles but may be 1 or 2 owner cars and may get traded in at book price. I would expect a connected motor trader to be able to pick up a UK auto for maybe 4.5-5.5K depending on mileage. If your dads guys can do an HPI and a brief check on it accident damage wise then imo you have an edge over everyone else thats looking for a UK car.............. Anyway, Jspec TT is probably your best compromise, preferably a GZ as it comes with more gizmo's and stuff - leather seats, cruise control etc I've got one and its an auto and I love it! The auto box in the soop is the best ive ever used in any car, really easy to predict... its the second tubby firing up that can catch you out Get a N/A for a couple of years, get the hang of steering with your right foot, enjoy the looks you get then move on to a naughty twin turbo when you get yourself a few more years no claims. Or get yourself a really nice ford puma Cant blame me for trying
Pixelfill
Thanx Conrad, nice Avatar by the way, lol. I will check out the club insurer, If JSpec insurance price can be lower, then maybe my search can widen. If you are going to check out the club insurer, you better make sure you actually join the club first. Oddly the club insurer will probably check that, being members and all.
