I just brought a 740 GLE yesterday for £450 as a winter hack knowing that they are not tunable and would not be tempted to play with it  damm!

My housemate's only just invested in a V70 T5 and he spends ages on volvo-esque forums and there are some silly power RWD retro volvos out there - they all seem to be bomb-proof as you'd expect and so can handle pretty impressive power. He's also looking at ways of making his car quicker than my stock TT, and it doesn't seem like he'd have to do much to get the power to do it - actually pulling it off with front wheel drive could be a different ball game though!

Why o why volvo decided to stick the driven wheels at the wrong end I've no idea. The old 850T5-R's would have been so much better.

Not a clue mate! If it's slightly damp out he can light the front wheels up in third when the turbo cuts in. And he suffers from pretty hefty torque steer too. The big power ones seem to be 740's, 950's (might be 940 or 960...not completely clued up on the Volvos of the world) and even 240's. All RWD too! An old 240 sounds like fun for some banger racing though...
