Quick questions

I'm going to replace both cam cover gaskets at the weekend and was wondering, do I have to remove the coil packs to get the cam covers off ?

 

I've also got a new fuel filter to go on and was unsure if there was any particular method used to remove and replace, or is it as straight forward as it looks?

 

I'm also changing the oil and filter with some nice shiny golden motul chrono v300, but that, I can manage. :D

Get yourself a flare nut spanner to use on the fitting on the rear of the fuel filter , I think you need a 14mm one.

 

Open ended spanners aren't much good as they're liable to open up and slip off so rounding off the corners.

 

You can hold the filter with a normal open ended spanner.

 

To depressurise the fuel system: Look under the carpet in the boot, to the top left of the spare wheel. There's a connector there for the fuel pump, unplug it and turn the engine over a few times.

 

Don't forget to plug it in after fitting the filter.

A little more info Re. the cam covers; You need to disconnect the wiring loom where it goes over the front edge of the cam covers and on to the wastegate vsv, O² sensor, etc. Unclip it from all that stuff on the exhaust side and then lift it out of the way of the cam cover. It can be left dangling on the intake side while you swap the covers over.

 

I hate removing cam covers. It's one of those jobs that looks like it should take five mins but actually takes ages.

2nd that!

 

Also make sure you pack sealant into the corners where the gaskets arches over the cams at the front of the engine. The service manual is very specific about this (and trust me you will get leaks if you don't!)
