Wez
You'd like the Diniz Pedro Diniz, F1 drivers uncle) family home in Brazil where my mapping friend spends a lot of time. It has a full size race circuit and pits complex / garage / aircraft hangar in the (extensive) grounds. If you can live with armed guards shooting the local plebs trying to nick the GT40 or the Citation, you'll be fine! Weathers sublime, visitors colourful and car savvy! ftp://ftp.chriswilson.tv/brazil Now were talking, I would be happy with a 1 bed shed on the side of the track

Chris Wilson
Back of the queue, sunshine. You can understand why he doesn't come rushing to sunny Shropshire to map my Skyline at a click of the fingers when he can have all expenses paid mapping sessions over there, I suppose.... "What do you do for a living?" "I map engines" "Sounds a *hit job" "Yeah, right, gotta rush, the Citation is waiting".

Chris Wilson
Built without a thought for history? Unlike that wonderful millenium creation, the "Dome". What a joke that is, typical instant gratification, unlike the ongoing building of St pauls over many many years, we throw up a bloody tent as a memory of a millenium.... The truly great houses and buildings can never be repeated, labour costs, skill and the whole ethos of life nowadays precludes it, which, to me, is utterly sad. Politics aside there is something inspiring in any true architectural great.

Chris Wilson
I thought I'd fired a reply about the house used in the early making of "The Haunting of Hill House", but it seems to have disappeared into the ether. Anyway, I have remembered the name, it Harlaxton Manor, near Grantham, Lincolnshire. It's OTT, wild and quite surreal, but it shows what someone with what was probably thought rather vulgar tastes could achieve back inthe 1830's. Anyone seriously considering the monstrosity that started this thread should be made to go and look at what a PROPER piece of OTT architecture should look like! http://www.ueharlax.ac.uk/harlaxton/briefj.htm One day I will get off my backside and go and visit this place, as they will allow private tours by arrangement. Even in photos and on film it looks preposterous!

Even in photos and on film it looks preposterous! Now thats a building! I have a major soft spot for country and manor houses, castles and well, any old buildings. I used to live in Sudeley Castle as a kid and always loved spending the weekends exploring it (and going the places I shouldn't!). All the history and architecture of these old buildings fascinates me
Chris Wilson
Sudeley Castle? Wow, they have a nationally important collection of rare pheasants there, I think? Quite a place to live at any time, especially as a child, do tell me more!

Indeed they do I'm a bit rusty on the details but they have some very rare pheasants and peacocks, all I remember is the peacocks being vicious buggers! There's also a whole load of badgers they keep as pets I won't bore you with the details, but yes, it was a very interesting place to grow up
Pot
Who would live in a house like this? Me. Now go away...
