jamesmark
I would it looks amazing, Updown Court £70m price tag, larger than the old duch house. Was reading about it today after 2 years on the market there is 2 potential buyers from the middle east! both put in offers rumoured to be well over £70m and a 3rd in the running too but no offer as yet. Here is a Video http://luxus.klima.cz/IMAGES/Updown%20Court.jpg
RedM
That is just obscene. How many room would you use on a day-to-day basis? About six at the most? What about the carbon footprint of a place like that? The money heating and cleaning alone is in six figures as I understand it.
SupraStar 3000
bit small for my taste

Very obscene, you would need to be a billionaire to even consider running it.

RedM
From The Guardian: Before making a bid, interested parties should consider the following. The stamp duty alone on Updown Court works out at £3m. Then there's the cost of running the house's 40 gas-fired boilers - an estimated £250,000 a year - and refilling the two massive underground water tanks that supply the 27 bathrooms and five heated swimming pools. There are compensations, however. Despite its price tag, Updown Court falls into council tax band H - a snip at £1,500 a year.

Conrad
Am I right in thinking this is a new build? Or is this a renovation? I couldn't care less how obscene it was, if I could afford it - I'd have it no question. You'd kick ass on MTV cribs. :d

Chris Wilson
IMHO its vulgar in extremis, and not a "gentlemans residence" I'd bet the craftmanship in the average Edwardian mansion is far superior, too. Arab potentates, pop stars and assorted big time crooks step forward, gentleman of old money snigger and pass on by
michael
It looks like one of those council houses where the owner keeps saving up and buying extra bits, a conservatory here, a kitchen extension there, a new upstairs over the garage.... hardly a fantastic example of architecture and obscenely expensive for something so American looking. I'd rather slum it in something like this: http://www.countrylife.co.uk/property/for-sale/South+West/Castle+Cary/9846_SomersetDorset+Borders_details.php And spend the money saved on a couple of overseas properties and lots and lots of cars. Ewen
Looks like someones taken all the houses from a small village and randomly stuck them to each other. How can something so expensive look so ugly. The architect must have been working his notice. Terrible example of modern retro, especially sad when compared to some beautifully proportioned and styled large houses designed hundreds of years ago. BTW, I hate it. Chewie
I seen this one before. It's all front, a fascade, it's got no back wall. I think it's a king size bill poster. That's why you can only see the front.

It has a full size race circuit and pits complex / garage / aircraft hangar in the (extensive) grounds. If you can live with armed guards shooting the local plebs trying to nick the GT40 or the Citation, you'll be fine! Weathers sublime, visitors colourful and car savvy! ftp://ftp.chriswilson.tv/brazil
