Car reached warm idle revs very quickly tonight?

I know it's mild out but jeez!

The car had been stood for nearly nine hours. I got in and started her up. Revs at about 1300, faffed for a few seconds and then drove round our car park towards the main road. When I reached the road (two minutes absolute tops) the rev, at standstill, were almost at there warm idle point!

Normally I have to drive at least 3 miles or sit in traffic for about ten minutes to get it to do this. Of a morning it takes forever to warm up and settle at the idle point.

I also noticed less condensation smoke from the exhaust as well.

Water temp was rock solid at the halfway mark.

BTW, it also did this last night.

Is this something I need to worry about?

Can we get back on topic lads?

The car reached warm idle quickly this morning too. It's almost like it idles fast until I put the car in gear. If I put it back to neutral the revs are now near the warm idle speed.

It seems to be running fine. I'm just wondering if it thinks it's summer!

Mine has been like this since the day I bought it, couldn't believe how quickly it got up to temperature Takes about a 1/4 mile to get to settle at mid- range temp. Thought there was something wrong but it has never varied

Actually that was my sensible answer :)

I'm not sure what the problem is - does your car warm up faster than normal or do the revs drop before it's warmed up?

-Ian

The revs drop to warm idle faster than I'm used to. I don't know if the car is warmed up or not. At just a few minutes into a drive I would doubt it.

But if the revs are dropping to warm idle as the temp gauge is starting to rise then Im sure thats ok. But I gather your question is not when the warm idle happens at what tempature but how quickly your car gets to its warm point, ie can you see it literally moving, because as Ian said they move quick enough that within 5mins of normal driving mine is pratically fully warm.

I wouldnt worry about how quickly it gets there though as long as it holds its normal tempature and isnt rising or dropping.....

I dunno, maybe the car is working well for a change and it's just reacting to the milder temps at the moment.

It is weird though. To go from having to drive a few miles to having it settle within a couple of hundred yards of unsettling.

That is abit quick.

I had a problem with mine where the revs dropped very low very quickly without the car even getting anywhere near warm but the revs dropped so low that the car nearly cut out. it happens now and again on mine.

Maybe something similar on yours. Never found the cause of mine though.
