dilocruzy
Hello there, In order to keep the soop I decided to buy myself a bike for commuting, problem is, i know which bike I would have but it would definately make me sterile in a week (R1) . The commute is Portsmouth to Guildford (+- 1 hour) in the dreaded A3... the budget is 3k to 4K, here are the ones im considering: BMW K1200 RS Honda VFR 900 Honda Varadero 1000 Kawasaki KLV 1000 I was also considering the Blackbird and Hyabusa however, the inurance quotes are offensive! Any advice in buying/insuring is greatly appreciated. Regards, Dan

The new ones look the dogs... http://www.motoforum.cz/galerie/images/Honda_VFR_1024x768.jpg but for my budget i get the pre-facelift ones, would you still consider it? http://www.bikebros.co.jp/images/wallpaper/honda/honda_vfr_1024.jpg
JamieP
You wont go wrong with a honda, good all round bike.... i hear what your saying about insurance but if it was me buying a bike for comuting with a 4k budget id go for a ZX12R, very comftable to ride effortless power and look very nice. SupraAyf
Dan, the Busa and Blackbird will munch miles as will the others that you quoted. You can't go far wrong with the Jap rockets while the BMW's are built to survive a direct hit by a nuclear missile! The MPG will be relatively the same with most of the big bikes but the sit-up tourers will always achieve slightly better MPG as there gearing and design is slightly different to the blasters - it all depends on how you ride them though at the end of the day Personally, I would go for a bike that is comfortable and not one for mega-speed as commuter traffic is not something where you want to be pushing through at 140 leptons (none that you mentioned are slouches though). The equation changes if you want the bike for dual role - i.e. commuting and as a sports machine as so many people who revitalise their enthusiasm for bikes soon find themselves wanting the extra power. If it's just for commuting then go for comfort and protection from the wind, elements and shit from the cars in dirty weather. If you're a big lad then stay away from the VFR800 as its underpowered and you will soon become pissed off when struggling on the motorway. Looks stunning, but I think I would neeed something with a litle more weather protection... If I wasent going to be commuting, then the choice would get allot more exciting! Thanks for the advice matey, Blackbird is definately my favourite of the list, however even an old one (1998) would still cost over a grand to insure! i had my license for 4 years now but with no "no-claims" its always going to be a stinger... Im willing to compromise a litle bit on the power, but not on reliability, weather protection and on insurance. The Blackbird/Busa wil be my bike of choice in the near future but until i build up at least one year no claims, ill have to stick with the boring ones! Jamie's right though Dan, a ZX12R is a smasher to own and nothing will keep up with it in a straight line (A1 models any way!) I have a ZX12 A1 with a double-bubble screen and it's great for all weathers with the correct rubber fitted. It is the same insurance as a Busa so that's something you may wish to investigate further if you were interested mate. Also, the choice very much depends on riding experience as a ZX 12 (as an example) can be a bit twitchy in lower revs in traffic (small power spikes) so at 181BHP for the A1 version as standard power, you don't want to make an inaccurate decision! Chewie
You can get a brilliant bicycle for £3K!. Mine cost me £2.5K comes with a carbon fibre frame and weighs 16 lbs. And you can wear as much lycra as you like. But on the weekends I like dressing up in Alpinestars leathers, Shoei and go poncing around on a Daytona 675. Chewie
And a Supe but not all at the same time. Also I like running fast in a pair of Asics 2160. Here's some sound advice - buy low, sell high.
