Help with ADSL router

CJ

Recommended Posts

I have finally got my installation disk off Talk talk to change to their broadband service. I have it running and it has told me i need to change the settings within my router to the ones they provide.

I have tried to open the router program but only have the options to register or un-install. Where would I look to open up the settings menu? It as a Zoom ADSL X5 modem.

Sounds like you're confusing a router (standalone unit connected to your phoneline that keeps your connection always on and allows multiple pc's access at once) with a broadband modem which is for one pc.

You likely have a connection associated with your modem, in winxp go to start menu>all programs>accessories>communications>network connections then choose the connection that relates to your talk talk service. Now right click on it and go to properties, then edit whatever you need to edit.

A router is normally administered from a web interface because you access it over your local area network (LAN) since it's not directly connected to your PC, the default address you'd normally put in your browser to get to it is http://192.168.0.1

Cheers,

Brian.

incoming may say pop3 and outgoing may say smtp, or both could say imap

Not sure why you would need to put mail server info on your router though, you'd normally do this in your mail client e.g Outlook - tools>accounts then properties on the account you wanna change.

DNS should be under the main settings on the router though.

Cheers,

Brian.
