mattyboy
Hello chaps, basically im having a problem with boosting. the car has 1st and 2nd cat removed and a full blitz nur spec exhaust, there is no fuel cut defender. Originally my problems started with a lumpy idle very intermittently, but would only happen once a month. Anyway all seemed ok untill i started her up two days ago, the idle was very low and would spike. i took her out for a run and it was boosting at 1 bar (its always boosted at this), all of a sudden loss of power and im assuming its a fuel cut problem. anyway not too concerned at this as the fuel cut defender is next on my shopping list. what did concern me though was that upon accelerating it didnt feel like the 2nd turbo was coming on, it was only boosting to about .3. so i backed off and let her rest for a moment, then back on with the accelerator and it boosted up to 1bar again. it did this all the way home, i.e boosting correctly and then not boosting. So i took her out today and its doing the same! Its not smoking on boost, the only smoke is on startup and im guessing thats stem valves. The pipes are the originals and are slightly perished (going to replace these too). any ideas? I know it could be one in a million things so ive booked it into Powerhouse at camberley so they can have a squint. cheers chaps by the way HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! mattyboy
right ive just been out in it again, constantly boosting at .6, it does sound like the pipes doesnt it. Ill have a look tomorrow when it s light, is it just a case of replacing the perished ones or is there a way to tell which one is leaking? You sure:blink: Boost is not created when stationary so the leak will not be detected. Engine load is needed. What boost is you guage reading for the 1st turbo. If you can explain the boosting pattern through the revs that would help. Do you get 0.6bar from 1st turbo or when both are on?
Ian C
Have a look in here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=35926 And see if any of the problems sound familiar. -Ian
mattyboy
right i havent taken it to the garage yet, but i had a friend follow me down the motorway and when i booted it and the turbos spun up there was a puff of black smoke. now searching through various posts the "black smoke" points to boost leak, now is it just a matter of replacing all the hoses? oh and my rear wheel bearings are fooked
