JustGav
While searching for some kit car stuff, I came across a hydrogen generator.. I remember doing stuff like this in the garage at home, but I certainly didn't generate enough noticeable bubbles, but then I was just playing with nails and a car battery as well as what ever I could find when I was 14.. I'm calling BS on this one, but it certainly seems worth a go building the unit, just to see...

carl0s
Havn't read it all yet but I'm at a loss as to where the electricity comes from for the H20 separation to take place. I suspect the problem might be that more electricity is required than can be generated by the alternator..
carl0s
and why will the pistons and valves rust? From Hydrogen & Oxygen burning? hmm.

This is the bit that got me, I can't see it generating anywhere NEAR enough hydrogen... and why will the pistons and valves rust? From Hydrogen & Oxygen burning? hmm. There was actually something about covering them in some ceramic.. Seems to easy, but hey I'll have a go building a hidenburg sorry hydrogen producing unit.. not for a car, just for the hell of it... Listen out for the booms over basingstoke *grin*
carl0s
Apparently burning hydrogen produces water, but still getting the hyodrogen in the first place costs more than the engergy it provides: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_combustion_engine
Konrad
If i'm not mistaked Aussies testing few hydrogen running buses right now, but they do not extract hydrogen on run tho. I would think that maybe nuclear cells would handle this, not sure about normal 12v battery. Also as far as i'm aware, hydrogen is SERIOUSLY flamable so be carefull Phoenix
