Jim_1979
Going to fit my fcd tomorrow, but before I did, I thought I'd take the car for a blat to see what boost it was running after going bpu and just to see if the fuel cut would kick in. Was already doing about 50 or so mph when I put the foot down. Boost climbed to 16psi with no fuel cut. (when should FC kick in?) I had to then back off because of traffic, I gave it another run and the same thing again... hit 16psi and had to back off. The third time, I finally had enough space and kept the foot to the floor. Again 16psi until it went into 4th (I think it was 4th anyway). Then it hit 16psi and just went to climb past it when the fuel cut kicked in. So..... I know not all Jap TT's hit 1.2 bar when fully decatted. Could mine be one, and was it simply going higher in the later gear because the engine was under more load? For everyone who is BPU (automatics), does your car hit 1.2bar in every gear?? If so, then I'll obviously need to fit the FCD (doing tomorrow) and then an electronic boost controller to get it to 1.2bar all the time. I just don't know what's the norm here!... lol. Any help appreciated! Thanks (spec is below)
jamesmark
My car when I went BPU did not hit 1.2 bar, not every car does and requires a boost controller to raise boost.
Jim_1979
should it hit 1.2 in every gear or just the later one(s)?
jamesmark
iirc it will hit 1.2 bar when sencond tuddy comes online, dunno about the gears though.
Jim_1979
ok.. it wasn't. It was only doing so in 4th due to the extra load. Looks like I need a boost controller!
jamesmark
Hold off on that lol I am sure there will be a more tech answer from other people ie Jake or Ian C.
Jim_1979
will do... will wait for the clever bods....
Jake
As you said Jim, the boost doesn't get so high in the lower gears because the engine load is less. Around 16psi (1.1 bar) is fine, anything between 1.1 and 1.2 bar is ideal, so I wouldn't bother with an EBC if I were you.
Jim_1979
Just the FCD then? so the extra 0.1 won't make much difference? Is it worth getting a EBC? When should Fuel cut kick in?? Mine didn't until it just creeped above 16psi.
Jake
Just the FCD then? That's what I'd do. so the extra 0.1 won't make much difference? Hardly any, in my experience. Some gains you would expect from the extra boost are lost to heat because the small stock turbos aren't efficient at the higher boost levels. Is it worth getting a EBC? Depends on you pocket and whether being able to hit 1.2 all the time is important to you. Remember that when the weather is warmer your car won't make as much boost as it making at the moment, but with an EBC you can compensate for that and maintain your desired boost level. When should Fuel cut kick in?? Mine didn't until it just creeped above 16psi.It should cut when the boost has been over 1.0bar for 3 secs (iirc)
bungy
When you went BPU where did you get your de-cat pipes from and where did you get the orifice plate from for the back pressure needed?
Jim_1979
orifice plate?? I bought my decat pipes and exhaust from some nice chap on here (gruggs) for a stupid silly cheap price!
bungy
Did you not fit a restrictor / orifice plate when the de-cat pipes went in. I thought this was needed but I may be wrong and wait expectantly for someone to correct me. I have removed the second cat and want to find someone with a front decat pipe to complete the exhaust. I did get fuel cut the other day with only the 2nd cat removed, so I guess i'll need an FCD before removing the 1st.

Jim_1979
yeah sorry... I have a restrictor ring in. Just never heard it being called an oriface plate before.
