splurge
Starter buttons are cool, aren't they? Aston Martin use them so they must be cool. I have a spare DIN radio slot sitting doing nothing, and, with my zero knowledge of car electroncis, was wondering how much of a job it would be to get a DIN blanking plate, fit a big red starter button into it (I guess you could just buy an S2000 spare part or something), and then wire it up to the electronics. Any thoughts?
Supragal
yeah the s2000 ones are cool but you can get them in all sorts of colours/finished etc, look through a few tuning mags. It's not difficult apparently....
paul_y3k
allthough you still need the key ! I keep trying to find something a bit more cleverer like the Renaults use !

millhouse
You can get Start Buttons on Ebay look
Digsy
I guess youd just wire it across position 3 on the normal starter key switch. You would still have the option of cranking it with the key as per normal, or being flash and cranking it with the button.
TLicense
Ahh yes but be careful starter buttons can also look like the biggest lump of shite.... ala Ford Fous RS.

Supra ST Myster
Rob if you get the bits in i can fit it for you when i come to see you next time, i would recomend using a power relay with the starter button as well!! (which i can bring with me) As stated above how it will work is that you turn the key to the second position and you can then either press the button to start or carry on turning the key in the third position. I had this fitted on my integra type R and its pretty cool.

carl0s
preumably then you'd have to hold the button in until it started? It'd be so much cooler if you just touched the button once and it cranked itself until the engine had started.
Digsy
That would be hard because the starter disengages mechanically. I don't think there is any feedback from the ECU that simply says "I'm running now". You could probably sense it with some trick electronics - like when the revs raised above a certain threshhold. It would take Pete Betts or a Pete Betts-alike to sort that one out though. Or you could press the button and have it crank for a preset time and assume that it would always start within that time and not do any damage for the remainder of the cranking period. That would be much easier to do.
Supra ST Myster
you can get relays with built in timers, or just make a timer circuit which is very easy, so just press the button and it energises the relay say for 3seconds in which it starts the car and the de-energises. Something i can work on if people are interested in.
