Starter button?

splurge

Recommended Posts

Starter buttons are cool, aren't they? Aston Martin use them so they must be cool.

I have a spare DIN radio slot sitting doing nothing, and, with my zero knowledge of car electroncis, was wondering how much of a job it would be to get a DIN blanking plate, fit a big red starter button into it (I guess you could just buy an S2000 spare part or something), and then wire it up to the electronics.

Any thoughts?

Rob if you get the bits in i can fit it for you when i come to see you next time, i would recomend using a power relay with the starter button as well!! (which i can bring with me)

As stated above how it will work is that you turn the key to the second position and you can then either press the button to start or carry on turning the key in the third position.

I had this fitted on my integra type R and its pretty cool.

That would be hard because the starter disengages mechanically. I don't think there is any feedback from the ECU that simply says "I'm running now".

You could probably sense it with some trick electronics - like when the revs raised above a certain threshhold. It would take Pete Betts or a Pete Betts-alike to sort that one out though.

Or you could press the button and have it crank for a preset time and assume that it would always start within that time and not do any damage for the remainder of the cranking period. That would be much easier to do.
