Recommended Posts

I'm looking to buy a wireless router shortly as I need access to xbox live and would like to use my laptop wirelessly as well.

I'm currently on AOL (i know, i know  ) but i'm stuck with them for now.

What do I need to buy exactly? and ideas on prices would be good too.

cheers.

Hi Danny, try these sites for PC components and peripherals. Aria are usually fine with questions and answers and should sort you with what you need....

http://www.overclock.co.uk/home.php

Hope these help mate ;)

Thanks for that, didn't really want to buy online though, would prefer to go to a shop and buy, although PCworld seem to be way overpriced.

Netgear modems are fine

Log it in to AOL with a new alias screen name (not your normal login name).

Set the MTU to 1450

You shouldn't have any problems ;)

You'll be able to access the internet via Internet Explorer or Firefox etc without going through the (fucking annoying) AOL front end, but if you're a masochist and still want to use it, you can ;)

Obviously you get your emails in the same way :)

yeah because the router is connecting to your ISP AOL, your computer isnt your computer it connecting to the router.

If you want to use your xbox via the router it will have to be plugged in directly with a cat5 cable or purchase the wireless adapter for the box :)

It's all running sweet now without having to use the AOL front end. Xbox live is running great now too.
