DannyW
I'm looking to buy a wireless router shortly as I need access to xbox live and would like to use my laptop wirelessly as well. I'm currently on AOL (i know, i know ) but i'm stuck with them for now. What do I need to buy exactly? and ideas on prices would be good too. cheers. Gaz6002
A USB wireless card will work in the laptop. Then just buy any half decent wireless router. Belkin 54g and the linksys routers are a good starting point
far
As said, wireless card and router will do the trick, Im no expert but I manage to set it all up within an hour, remember to lock down your connection too! This might also help in setting the thing up http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=65151&highlight=wireless
DannyW
Still struggling with this, I bought a netgear ADSL modem router today but cant get it to work with AOL, and my computer doesnt seem to recognise the modem either. Any ideas?
DannyW
After lots of swearing i'm finally connected via my new router, the weird thing is though, i'm using an AOL connection without using the AOL software, i didn't think that was possible?? Oh well, at least it's working at the moment.

Gordon F
I dont know if this is relevant, but do you have to have AOL Gold to set up a network? If this is a dumbass question, please excuse me - I'm not an expert
geoffvalenti
Netgear modems are fine Log it in to AOL with a new alias screen name (not your normal login name). Set the MTU to 1450 You shouldn't have any problems You'll be able to access the internet via Internet Explorer or Firefox etc without going through the (fucking annoying) AOL front end, but if you're a masochist and still want to use it, you can Obviously you get your emails in the same way
Ric
yeah because the router is connecting to your ISP AOL, your computer isnt your computer it connecting to the router. If you want to use your xbox via the router it will have to be plugged in directly with a cat5 cable or purchase the wireless adapter for the box

Clarkey
Make sure you've secured your network Quite afew people where I live - don't bother. And if one is so inclined - can latch onto their network ... Use their bandwidth ...
