Wez
Hey All, Anyone else heard about the Apple iPhone. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/09/14/apple_iphone_at_large/ There has been talk about these for some time now and it is supposed to be based on the iPod Nano. The price being talked about is approx £160 which I think is great value if true.

michael
Im pretty sure that Cisco is suing Apple, over this new toy, dunno what the details are of yet. But its in the hands of the lawyers. The BBC reported on this earlier today. It seemed like a decent idea but in reality it's going to be quite expensive, aren't they insisting on 18 month phone contracts in the US as well as the cost of the device itself? I was hoping it would be a standalone device that you could put your existing SIM into, £300 for that with an 8GB disk and they would have cleaned up. I'll stick to a PDA phone with a big memory card I think, I don't need to be fashionable.

Todd
would like to see what the keyboard is like, given that txting is such a big thing here, a poor input method could really kill it

My XDA IIi (and other XDA type phones) have offered this for a while, no doubt Apple will call it iDial and make it sound as if they have come up with something clever though

michael
No 3g. They have to leave something out so that they can "amaze" the public with version 2 in 12 months.
imi
Cisco Sues Apple for Trademark Infringement Suit Filed to Protect Cisco's iPhone® Trademark SAN JOSE, Calif., January 10, 2007 - Cisco® today announced that it has filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California against Apple, Inc., seeking to prevent Apple from infringing upon and deliberately copying and using Cisco's registered iPhone trademark. Cisco obtained the iPhone trademark in 2000 after completing the acquisition of Infogear, which previously owned the mark and sold iPhone products for several years. Infogear's original filing for the trademark dates to March 20, 1996. Linksys, a division of Cisco, has been shipping a new family of iPhone products since early last year. On Dec. 18, Linksys expanded the iPhone® family with additional products. "Cisco entered into negotiations with Apple in good faith after Apple repeatedly asked permission to use Cisco's iPhone name," said Mark Chandler, senior vice president and general counsel, Cisco. "There is no doubt that Apple's new phone is very exciting, but they should not be using our trademark without our permission. "Today's iPhone is not tomorrow's iPhone. The potential for convergence of the home phone, cell phone, work phone and PC is limitless, which is why it is so important for us to protect our brand," Chandler concluded. With its lawsuit, Cisco is seeking injunctive relief to prevent Apple from copying Cisco's iPhone trademark.
