loosing lots of water daily

ADD

Recommended Posts

merry xmas everyone.....over the last 6 months or so whenever i drive the soop i have to put water in the rad approx 1/3 of a pint. then when its cold il check it and its gone again. looked for leaks and see none, no cracks, holes or anythings. when i start the car up there is a small amount of white smoke but i always thought it was just condensation in the system.

Although there is alot of what looks like oily water just under where the oilways to the turbo's are, but its doesnt seemto be loosing any oil. if anybody could help out thats great.

many thanks

i got told if its losing water or using water fast the head might need replacing???

If his headgasket had gone it would more than likely be mixing with the oil and making his look like sludge which im sure he would have noticed or if it wasnt mixing the car would be blowing massive white clouds of the rear all the time :)

If the head gasket had gone you will get a water / oil emulsion usually showing itself as a brownish slime under the oil filler cap and will smell of burnt toast. Failing that the water expansion tank may have an oily film when you look inside. It is possible to have a sniff test carried out at a garage where they test your coolant for cross contamination but I would definately change the rad cap first.:)

After checking the rad cap, try really inspecting the rad end tanks. They're made of platic and can form really miniature cracks that can leak under pressure. I had a car that would only leak under boost. After careful investigation (rad cap changed, sniffer test to check head gasket etc. I changed the rad and it sorted it.

Certainly one to try out before changing the head gasket...
