Rattle at 2k+ rpm

Ive developed a rattle which I can hear when ive got the autobox in neutral and rev the car over 2k rpm. Once over 2k rpm I can hear what sounds like a rattle. Once i let off the throttle and the revs dip below 2k rpm the rattle disappears. I initially thought this may have been the autobox, but now I can make the noise occur in neutral at a certain rev-range Im not so sure.

Could this possibly be heatshields rattling? Actuator arm rattling?

Car drives fine, no hesitation, gear changes are good and power is there....

Or buy a big zorst :)

If you still have the stock exhaust fitted, it could be the exhaust heat shielding that is rattling, it would probably only be noticeable at a stand still in neutral as you have no road and transmission noise to drown it out.

OK, get someeone in the car and rev it. Then you get your head low and pin point the sound better. Then get the drivers side jacket up and on axle stands and once again get someone sat in the car reving again so you can again double check where it's coming from. It's the only way you can figure out where and what it's coming from.

I had a wierd rattle that appeared only at a certain rev and nobody knew what it was or where it came from. Then we finally realised it was the metal tax disc holder, which would vibrate against the windscreen where it wasn't fixed on properly. Could be yours maybe?
