My dog lives outside at night but has the garage to himself with a cosy heated insulated box and a dog flap in the garage door :D

During the day he's inside or out with me, but when its raining he just sits out in the rain playing with the bird bath

He is a total loon though ;)

There should be somewhere warm and cosy for the dog to go if it wants to. If not then its cruel.

As an rotweiler owner I can tell you that they are more then fine outside, rotweilers just laugh on english weather temperatures :p Mine was living outside when temperature was down to -25 degrees and was happy about weather. Of course you have to build some small wooden house for them, properly insulated and put comfortable hay inside, so rotweiler have proper place to sleep :) If he is leaving his dog outside without any kind of weather protecyion and sleeping place - then go and report him!

This is my baby!

I somebody near me had a St Bernard, it was left outside all the time even in the snow, I think it had a kennel but not too sure.

As a dog lover ( boxers) I mentioned it to the manager of local dogs rescue, he said that a St Bernard would be fine as they are bred to be "weather resistant".

Personally I wouldnt leave a dog outside, my boxer didnt even like going for a walk in the rain, he would put his head outside and if it was raining he would run back in and curl up in his box.

Believe me , once you have had a boxer u will luv um:) :) :) :)
