Classic Doom for Doom3

Anyone else downloaded this? What a blast. It's the original shareware version of Doom made over with the Doom3 engine.

The weird thing is that I know the original Doom inside out, back to front and upside down and can draw the levels from memory but with different textures and lighting it's like a whole new game. My visual cues are all gone and TBH I'm struggling to remember where all the secrets are.

Anyways, Classic Doom. Get it got.

That link is the one.

I think they had planned to do the whole game but time and funds ran out.

I think there is a version coming which uses updated versions of the original graphics. That's be good. I find D3 far too dark at times.

Same here, got a bit annoying having to wander around with the torch all the time. Will have to try this out though :)

Without that part of it though it wouldnt have been the same game. It created sooooo much atmosphere and tension, then an enemy would jump out at you, you'd sh*t yourself, have to turn off the torch to shoot the bast*rd, sh*t yourself some more and run away....well thats what i did anyway.

Yeah, like they don't have gaffa tape on Mars in the future!:rolleyes:

I play it with a flashlight mod that has a torch fixed to the weapon models. The whole torch off, shoot, torch on again fiasco was far too contrived. The game is plenty dark enough to allow for a torch to be on all the time.

When Doom first came out (four floppies!), I was hooked big time, playing many times a day, well into the small hours at night.

I was doing an MSc at the time and there were exams right after Xmas, I don't think it particularly helped me to concentrate.

The snoring of the beasts and the spooky music were very addictive, as I was trying to go through the levels and stay alive.

After Doom, my interest in any computer game went pretty much downhill...

;)

I can't get the Classic Doom to run, complains about something missing (call to a pure virtual function - how would that compile?) anyway I tried to update to version 1.3 as well - in case that would fix the issue, but I can't manage that either :complain:

Mike

Silly question but you are trying to run it from within D3 and not as a standalone game, aren't you?

If you aren't, it appears in your mod list.

Yeah cheers Martin, tried launching using the batch file, and by selecting the Mod from the main menu. but it's causing an error (looks like a fault in the mod) I'm assuming the problem is due to not being able to update to version 1.3.

Getting annoyed with it now.

I:

:: Installed Doom 3 v1.0

:: Downloaded the 1.3 patch from the official Doom 3 website and installed it

:: Installed Classic Doom into my Doom 3 installation folder

:: Ran CDoom.bat

...and it worked ok for me.

I used to yeah, not sure now, can't even find the spot where the door used to be :D

It used to be on the stairwell down from the red key, before you turned back towards the door (in front of you at the the bottom of the stairs before you turned left towards the door)
