Gazboy
Nice bit of timing by Smolenski- TVR went into liquidation at 3pm yesterday afternoon. 260 workers will get no redundancy pay OR their December paycheck. Nice Christmas spirit eh!

Gazboy
Someone should buy TVR, and save all those workers. Ok, I'm not 100% on this but NS still 'owns' the TVR names & image. I don't think there is anything to actually buy. Peter Wheeler still owns the factory, which is now a bare shell, and as NS hasn't been paying supliers there can't be much hardware left either. Daston
I though it was up for sale and that it was going to come back to the UK. Dosnt suprise me really one of the main reason people bought a TVR was A) cause its british and B) it was just Arse - Seat - Road

Chiefgroover
TVR catered for a very limited market. Fun cars, but a shame they have gone. Will be hard to find a new owner with their poor financial record.
Dragonball
Not really followed this...but on the other side perhaps if the workers had taken a bit more care with the construction of the cars, they might not spend so much time in the garage, and consequently still be employed? All down to management at the end of the day whatever...

Not the case this time Paul. TVR's, being handbuilt, are always going to have "niggles" If you buy one its all part of the "fun" of it;) It's when they put an engine like the SpeedSix in their cars, which is destined for destruction, that the big problems started. Minor faults we live with. Regularly replacing the engine, at the cost of £1000s we don't Hell, anybody who knows anything about cars has told NS to junk the SpeedSix boat anchor and stick a decent (US sourced) V8 in the cars. There are even some owners who've done just that. Obviously pigheadedness or stupidity prevented him, and this is the result. From a personal point of view, it doesn't really affect me, because if I was looking to change my Griff for anything else, Hell would have to have been long frozen over, before I even considered buying anything with that SpeedSix POS in it, no matter how sexy it looked I do however feel sorry for those who've recently bought a new(ish) TVR. When the factory was up and running, getting things done was a nightmare, now its gone the residual values are going to be in freefall, and getting spares virtually impossible

JohnA
The speedsix was the icing on the cake. When I first heard it, I couldn't believe the stupidity and arrogance of people who had proven that they couldn't get simple things right in a consistent manner. Then they announced that they're designing and manufacturing a whole engine from scratch! Who do they think they are, Toyota? Hell, even the VW group revolve around shared platforms - and TreVoR think othewise? Hybris If they had made a deal to use Chevvy V8s they'd be in business and in profit long ago. Idiots. merckx
If they had made a deal to use Chevvy V8s they'd be in business and in profit long ago. Idiots. Much easier than designing and building your own engine. Even a BMW unit with gearbox, Morgan started using them. Such a shame , I like the Tuscan. JohnA
It's a huge shame, without TVR there would be no jewels like the Tuscan or the Griffith. I just can't believe the stupidity and arrogance that led them to the suicide path of the speedsix. It was hopeless from the word 'go'. Reliability was the firm's main issue, and they went on, spending nonexistent R&D money making it *worse* Opting for Chevy V8s would have cut costs and push reliability higher up. 400-1000bhp can be had from them, what else did they freaking want? Weight is almost the same, dimensions not way off, they could easily build cars around them and stay in business.
RICHARDA
Yup and keep that traditional V8 sound that used to be associated with great TVRs.

Gazboy
Although not entirely unsurprising, the way that NS has been carrying on over the last few months. I'll be interested to see what his staunch defenders on PH have got to say about this latest escapade To be honest they were half (or a third fpr the pedants) of the problem. TVR made some POS cars, yet the diehards still bought them, and defended them- had they said- no, we'll buy it when it's fixed, then maybe they would still be in business. Yes the build quality is shocking, but to be fair to the guys look at what they were working with, and who they were working for. The management really did make life harder than it needed to be for them.
