Jake
My car went in yesterday to get the turbo kit fitted, which I was really excited about. Got a message today saying there is a problem. I've just been down to see my car, basically the complete compressor side of number 2 turbo has disintegrated and been ingested by the engine. There are bits of turbo in the intake piping, in the engine oil and even in the exhaust. It was still running when I managed to get off the highway when the turbos went, but it must be completely trashed inside from the amount of metal that's gone through it. So the turbo broke on the way to drop it off for a new turbo kit? That's REALLY bad luck! What turbo kit were you going to have fitted? No the turbos blew a few weeks ago - Nic's been collecting bits like and HKS mani and GT35R to fit to it...

tDR
If I recall correctly CW had done a 5 angle job on th head before now...I hope the head is still ok. CW's mate was it not? And at that time Nic bought and had fitted a brand new set of twins from Toyota, set and mapped in TTC mode by his HKS tuner out there? Or I could be loosing it....! Sorry to read this Nic, hope you can scrape the cash together for a new block and the head is OK! Cheers, Brian.

Animal
Shit Nic, on top of everything else as well, I feel for ya, mate. I'd probably be looking for a cheap runaround to tide me over and start saving up for a SERIOUS rebuild. Chin up, dude.
Nic
Thanks guys I'm on the look out now for a good second hand engine (hopefully I can find a low mileage Aristo VVTi 2JZGTE), I'll probably have to abandon the idea of going single now and perhaps stick with the stock turbos, I need to see what the costs are like. It was an ugly sight seeing lumps of chewed up metal in the engine oil today. Brian you're memory is good, I had a brand new short block, CW tuned head and turbos fitted about 5 years ago My car has always been well maintained mechanically, so I don't know why the turbo let go how it did. I wasn't at peak boost when the turbos went, I was at half throttle and just starting to accelarate at around 4500rpm when it happened. I was on a highway at the time so had to limp about half a mile until I could pull over. There was a lot of engine oil being burnt out of the exhaust, but I had put that down to the exhaust side going and dumping oil from the turbo seal into the exhaust, it appears now that the engine was probably lunching itself at the time. There was basically nothing left of the second turbo on the exhaust and compressor side, just the turbo shaft, so it must have gone big style. I was already to give up this afternoon and break my car for parts, I'm still not sure how and when I can get it fixed, but will do as suggested and try to sort it out after Christmas now. Thanks again guys

Nic
I've been wondering what damage, if any, the turbo will have done to my FMIC? Is it likely to have fragments of turbo stuck inside?
loks
I would guess so Nic, see diagram below. However someone with superior technical knowledge and experience will be along soon
Nic
I would guess so Nic, see diagram below. However someone with superior technical knowledge and experience will be along soon Yes it will have definitely gone through the IC, what damage it will have done and whether the IC will still be useable again though I'm not sure about. If I need a new IC as well, then I'm off out again to find another tall building....
