MarkR
Hi all I've just bought a Carbon Fibre Supra steering wheel off ebay, and while everything looks great and should fit, i somehow /vbb/images/smilies/bbcode_oops.gif managed to forget that my tiptronic controls were on the current wheel. Has anyone tried to remove these or fitted another kind of switch to a supra, or even transplanted the existing controls? Cheers Mark
Jake
I haven't done it but I did discuss the possibility with Emin and apparently it's quite straightforward.
MarkR
Thanks Jake Do you know to get the standard wheel off without setting off the airbag? Has Emin done it before? Cheers Mark
Jake
Do I know how to? Yes mate, bloody carefully! You just take the screws out of the centre cover (They're underneath, turn the wheel 90º to see them better. Then pull the cover off and disconnect the airbag wires. The rest should be fairly obvious.
Graham S
Dam dude, thats brave!! Disconnect the battery first and leave for a little while to discharge the system 10 mins is normally fine!

Pete
Bollocks. I'd have bid on that if I knew that was possible. I can't quite see how though? The whole leather section must need unpicking surely? Then the button holes might be part of the metal work of the wheel?
MarkR
I was thinking... Does anyone know of any after market paddles available? Either that, or i might try get some carbon fibre ones made to link to the existing wiring and have custom F1 paddles
Pete
I've toyed with the idea of hunting out a dead Ferrari, Aston, BMW to see what the paddles are like and if they could be transferred. I suspect you'd need to move the whole wheel assembly though which would mean boss adapters. Also everyone would laugh at you for having a prancing horse in a Supra. MarkR
I was looking at these http://news.hspn.com/articles/936/1/New-Paddle-Shifter-For-Any-Automatic/Page1.html and these http://www.twistmachine.com/products/ yesterday but they seem to have an entirely standalone unit to control the gearbox. Might buy the kit and modify it...

David P
I've been too busy tinkering with my supercharger conversion to play with the Lexus flappy paddles. It's on my list of jobs to do on warm summer afternoons. Edited December 6, 2012 by David P (see edit history)
