mathew
forgot i didnt have a clutch and hit the brake pedal with my left foot. with my mate not wearing a seatbelt his head proceeded to smack into the windscreen with a nice bang. he must have a bloody tough head as how he didnt get knocked out id never know. surrounding traffic looked on in with strange looks and i felt a right idiot but im sure im not the first to do this

mathew
it could have been worse for me as there was a micra full of prepubecent chavs in at the lights all looking over dribbling.luckily they turned right and didnt go my direction lol
Scoboblio
I did that a couple of times when I first got the auto.

Bobbeh
Haha I've done that before, its just instinct if you're used to manuals.. thankfully this was in the US in some POS hire car

Jake
I can't see how you would do that. Your left hand on the auto shifter would surely feel completely different to a manual gearknob.
mathew
it wasnt my hands that fooked up, it was my feet
Guru
Sorry I agree with Jake it must be hard to forget about missing a pedal and gaining a gigantic auto lever....
mathew
no need to apologise. whether you agree or not it happend. ok maybe you higher beings would never make a mistake or maybe wouldnt admit to it i dont care.
Scoboblio
After driving nothing but manuals then going to an automatic I found it very easy to do. And I don't drive around with one hand on the auto lever so that doesn't help!
RedM
Driven nothing but manuals prior to the Supra but somehow I have managed not to make this elementary mistake like some on here. What was that about manuals and driving gods?

dangerous brain
I often do the other way round. Get in a manual car, come up to a set of traffic lights or roundabout and expect the car to change gear on its own. Very embarrasin when it stalls
Scoboblio
I didn't do it when driving along normally but when going for a full-pelt 1st gear launch, ie you don't really think about it but just do it from instinct. And in a new car that you've barely driven before, yes the gear knob does feel different.
mathew
mistakes are made jake. some more silly/stupid than others but none the less they are made.with regards to your gear knob theory, women are all different but i still make the mistake of f**kin some which then turn out to be a mistake
