Tyre wear in one tyre only!

I have a very worn (as in nearly at the legal limit markers) front passenger side tyre.

The wear is only on the outside edge though.

Tracking issue or something more sinister (and by sinister I mean expensive)?

I haven't driven up any kerbs but I have caught the wheel on a kerb VERY GENTLY twice recently.

AIUI if the tracking was out it would wear both the front tyres the same, because you'd have to turn the steering wheel slightly to compensate for the side that had gone 'out'.

I believe wear on the outer edge of one tyre is more likely caused by a knackered shock or geometry problem.

I've noticed just tonight that I seem to be pulling the steering wheel ever so slightly to the right to make it go straight. If I keep the wheel straight then she veers gently left.

Anyways, I need it done sharpish. I'm getting some new tyres fitted on Friday and the tracking checked.

Fingers crossed it's out and nothing more serious.

...and as ever, Jake, thanks for your help.

Get a full Geo done mate, i had a similar problem, and it was down to a gubbed upper wish bone. new wish bone and full Geo sorted my problem.

Great. I really can't think of anything I'd rather do than throw more money that I don't have at the c**ting car.

I had the two fronts replaced today. I also had an alignment check and well, whaddya know, they were out.

All sorted now and just up to me to keep an eye out for abnormal wear.

The bad news is that the rears are coming up for replacement too. While they appear to have plenty of tread left you can really see the difference compared to the new ones.:(
