stevie_b
A quick numpty question for you: Where should I fill to with power steering fluid on the dipstick? For example, assuming the engine's cold, should it be at the bottom of the "cold" box or the top of it? Thank you muchly.
Dave
LUBRICATION FLUID TYPE Use Dexron-II fluid. FLUID LEVEL CHECK When fluid is at normal operating temperature, fluid level should be between HOT marks on fluid reservoir or dipstick. When fluid is cold, fluid level should be between COLD marks on fluid reservoir or dip-stick. Add Dexron-II fluid if necessary. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM BLEEDING 1) With engine off, check fluid level in power steering pump reservoir. See FLUID LEVEL CHECK. Raise and support vehicle. Turn wheels fully in both directions. Recheck fluid level. Start and run engine at 1000 RPM or less. Rotate steering from lock to lock 2 or 3 times. Lower vehicle. 2) Rotate wheel from lock to lock 2 or 3 times. Center steering wheel. If fluid level does not rise and no foaming of fluid is evident, bleeding is complete. If fluid level rises more than 0.20" (5.0 mm) or foaming is evident, repeat procedure until air is released. stevie_b
Thanks Dave, much appreciated. BTW, other people on here to recommend using Dexron III not II. Any thoughts? I don't know what mine contains. Can you mix them?
Dave
this info is from my supra manual so i would think when this was printed dex 11 was the top one now theres dex 111 most of them are mixable but not 100% best ask in the tech section

alan_blue
what is dextron? is it a grade of oil or manufactor?
stevie_b
I think it's a grade of fluid/oil, not a manufacturer. I might be wrong though because I've never touched the stuff before.
