Graham S
heres the thing,.. ok, you will hardly every get diamonds set in silver but white gold can be easily and is often mistaken for silver. Ah right, cool. Didn't know that. Will remember that.. I know nothing about jewelery, just what crap came with the other half's ring.. I know nothing about jewelery, just what crap came with the other half's ring.. i think, tho im not sure,. silver is too soft to hold diamond., but basicaly its just the value of silver, for example,. 9ct gold is worth around £4-5 per gram ,. silver is only worth around 50p a gram . bungy
Treat yourself to a short break in Dubai. The cost of the holiday will be saved on the jewellery you buy. And of course the Omega Seamaster that you bought at a third - half UK price. Takes a little work as the markets expect you to haggle and can be quite tireing. Just have to relax in the afternoon in your 5* hotel.
Gamer
I have bought most of my major diamond/ jewelery purchases from the states. 2-1/2 carat and a 1-1/2 carat ring for me and a 2 carat ring for her. All in 18ct gold for great prices compared to what is on offer in this country. This was before the great exchange rate that there is now so that would be my first port of call if I was looking to purchase some more. carl0s
I might drive down to Birmingham this week if I get a quiet day. So far I've added these to my interest list (I'm not very rich so I'm thinking 2 - 300 quid, hopefully closer to £200 so I can buy some other bits and peices too): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320061810134&fromMakeTrack=true http://cgi.ebay.com/STUNNING-1CT-SI-H-DIAMOND-NECKLACE-10KT-W-GOLD_W0QQitemZ160063006477QQihZ006QQcategoryZ10995QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem but I'm a little concerned that the second one, which is stated as 1ct total diamonds, looks identical to this one which is stated as 0.25ct: http://cgi.ebay.com/NECKLACE-7-6g-WHITE-GOLD-DIAMONDS-LARIAT-STYLE-NEW_W0QQitemZ110067733088QQihZ001QQcategoryZ92770QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Although the seller of the 1ct one also does the same one with sapphire, so perhaps he does the stone-settings himself. Any thoughts?
carl0s
Somebody did say to forget diamonds because I could get a whole lot of nice jewelry for my money if I didn't go for diamonds, but I've sort of let slip some questions about diamond jewelry now.. far
OK - since the wife is somewhat of an expert on this stuff she has advised the diamond in the Ebay one you have posted above is 0.12 Carat and the clarity is SI-VS have a look here for clarity guide: http://www.thediamondbuyingguide.com/diamondclarity.html The one we have here is 0.53 Carat (diamonds are over 4 times as heavy) and consists of 19 pieces of individual diamonds ). Our diamond clarity grade is VVS2 which is one above the one you are looking at. I have attached the certificate that came with the necklace which includes a picture of the actual Diamond necklace itself. Here is something I found as a comparison on BeaverBrooks website http://www.beaverbrooks.co.uk/index.cfm?event=catalogue.showProduct&productID=1458 Would be looking for £650 and I will hand deliver it to you before xmas (Its been valued at £750) - I know this is well over your budget but you are getting the best from Dubai with lifetime guarentee

carl0s
It's a very nice peice but too over budget I'm afraid. It'd mean no decats for starters, and probably seriously limit presents that other people get
far
I'm afraid thats the cheapest one she has, well whatever you choose feel free to drop me a pm and I can get the wife to have a look at it for you. Apparantly the ones in Beaverbrooks online are pretty good but not as cheap as Dubai.
carl0s
This is nice, although the diamonds are Inclined, and it's four weeks delivery so no go. http://www.edirectory.co.uk/pf/pages/mia.asp?recordid=3341536&cid=880&afid=88888
carl0s
Think I've found a great value website.. Only looking at eternity rings so far. We're not married (yet) but that doesn't matter does it? Here's the site: http://www.sparklingdiamond.co.uk/mideternity.asp
Chiefgroover
dubai is the cheapest at the mo Dubai is a dear hole. There are no super cheap paradise islands, this is only myth. If there were, dealers would buy the load and you wouldnt even get a sniff of it. DeBeers set a world price based on Martin Rappaports listings. No country is super cheap, only super low grade. South Africa isnt cheap either. Paying money for dull lifeless diamonds at a so called bargain price is a 100% waste of money. The highest standards of diamond jewellery production in the world is the UK. Diamonds with certificates helps, but you have to remember they are all only an opinion, so the paper its written on isnt worthless. Diamond grading isnt an exact science. Your best bet it to use your eyes, if its lively, eyeclean, and no trace of colour then you'll usually do ok. Buy from someone you trust. Everywhere is cheaper for watches than the UK, mostly because IMO the BHI are corrupted by the funding they receive from Rolex and the like. Chiefgroover
Carlos, take a F colour stone and a D. You need reference grade stones to know the difference. The optimum buy for a solitaire is G VS1 or 2, premium cut, which is flawless from the top view. Thats what us in the trade buy our women. carl0s
OK, well, I've changed my mind about that shop. (sparkingdiamond.co.uk) since I found his eBay shop and read the feedback: http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=apexents There is a lot of neutral feedback where people have said the jewelry is poor quality and a refund was given. Trip to Birmingham then. ?
carl0s
Here is what I would like to buy. Earrings: http://www.sparklingdiamond.co.uk/earing.asp?productid=19 and a ring like this: http://www.sparklingdiamond.co.uk/solitairerings.asp?productid=158 Now Chief. Being in the trade, can you help?
Conrad
Being local to me I've been to the Jewellery Qtr a couple times. Maybe it's just me but I found buying a dimond ring an absolute nightmare, buying an engagment ring for my ex was the worst. You don't wanna get ripped off or buy a shitty diamond. Maybe I'm wrong but there seemed to be a lot of tat in the Jewellert Qtr and it felt like a lot of shops would be offering you something that wasn't what they said it was. I was told that out of the 100's of shops in Brum only 5 or 6 were certified jewellers or something that carry a particular coat of arms above their door. These particular shops were the reputable ones you can buy with confidence from. I ended up buying from one of them but paid a premium for doing so. Then again it could all be a load of bollox, maybe Chiefgrover could offer a bit more advice.
