Amsterdam. :)

d'oh. I was there on Friday for xmas lunch. A couple of the group went to the Diamond place there and I didn't bother :(

No ermm I'm not sure. I don't do the bling thing. Elizabeth Duke? :D

Nor does my lady either really but I was thinking of something pretty and discreet.

going by when I bought my fiancee's engagement ring you need to look for clarity, Online is probably not the best place to look as you'd wanna see it in the flesh where they can show you the clarity. Just dug out her chart that came with her ring....

D-F is colourless and are rare! (My fiancee has a 'D' ring, not cheap!)

G-J is near colourless

K-M is faint yellow

N-R is very light yellow

S-Z is light yellow

So basically the closest to D is the best

Also there is the Carat!

A carat equals one fifth of a gram and is divided into 100 points!

Diamonds are graded by the inclusions, Diamonds with inclusions which are visible to the naked eye are graded 1/1-1/3. Those with small inclusions are graded S1/1-S1/2. Diamonds with very, very small inclusions are graded VVS1-VVS2. Very few diamonds have no inclusions. These are called flawless (FL) or internally flawless (IF)

there is 100 points per carat in diamonds,

a 1 carat diamond ring would cost about 1200-1300,. half a carat ( or 50 points ) about 6-700,. and so on.,

thats an average 18ct white gold ring say ;)

I'm seeing 0.33ct 14 wg pendant/necklaces for around £300 so far.

What about this for a deal? Exchange rate being slightly in our favour:

Everyone I know recommends me to the 'Jewellery Quarter' in Birmingham, my housemate's just bought a platinum diamond engagement ring for my other housemate (His Mrs, we're not gay)...

Obviously if you can't afford to get abroad...

Yeh, its stupidly cheap there, my mate bought a HUGE gold chain for £550, they even gave him the insurance certificate stating retail value was nearly 2k!

the pendant/necklace sounds a good deal,good price.

the ebay one from the states is the right price but the thing is the gold wouldnt of been thru the Uk assay office so wont be hallmarked for the Uk,

it would lose a lot of value once in the country ;)

I can't find the site now, but I suspect it was this one:

http://www.geraldonline.com/product/product_details.html?id=367

which is 9ct gold 0.33ct diamond, but it's three separate diamonds, so does this mean then that it's three diamonds which aren't really very pointy at all? Does it mean they have 11 points each, and by 'points', do you literally mean points in the shape, or is it a scoring system?

Actually, that one is a single stone, but I'm still curious about the points thing all the same.

A personal opinion mate and don't take this the wrong way, unless your other half likes white gold then myself and my fiancee always think white gold looks like silver, which is cheap.. But really its down to what she likes, if my woman liked white gold then suppose i'd have to get her that.

Nice looking necklace though mate, if not slightly over priced as its only 9ct gold!

I'd get down to birmingham dude, you'll save the petrol money in the saving you'd make in the price of the bling!

yes your right carl0s,if it says 0.33 pnt ,then basically its a 3rd of a carat dmnd,. split between 3 stones if it has 3 stones then yes there 0.11 each.

the points system in dmnds is about giving a total worth of diamond,

its just about size realy and measurments, ;)

the carat is the yardstick so to say of diamonds,

it just makes it easier to deduce its size and value,

unlike gold which say it does make a difference in quality ( for example 18 ct gold has more physical gold per microgram than 9ct gold )

in diamonds its just a measuring device not a grade of the actual stones/s. :)

ok, you will hardly every get diamonds set in silver ;)

but white gold can be easily and is often mistaken for silver.
