imi
In light of the recent murders and Adnan's thread here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=92376&highlight=prostitution what do you all think, should it be legalised or not? edit: this is a public poll.....pervs will be revealed
Homer
Be warned, its a public poll Personally I say yes. A regulated industry will make it much safer for the girls (and possibly the punters!). Besides, they're only selling sex. You can buy booze legally, why not a blow job? Nowt wrong with that in my book! (Not that I've ever used one, even when I lived in Holland )

DaveK
Besides, they're only selling sex. You can buy booze legally, why not a blow job? There is a line in St. Elmo's Fire (anybody remember that?) which makes me smile. After being propositioned on a street corner by a prostitute the guy replies that he doesn't pay for sex. The prostitute replies (and this is far from word perfect) : "You think that when you have a wife / girlfriend you don't pay for sex? You pay baby - you're just never sure you're gonna get it. With Naomi, you pay and you get it".

Yup, an italian friend's dad used a similar line "Sex for free costs you more in the long run".. which in italian just sounds brilliant, and it is also SO very true.. With regards the poll, it is going to happen either way, so it might as well be legal, at least then it can be regulated to hell like everything else in this country. Ewen
Voted yes, its absolutely crazy that its not been legalised years ago. Regulation must be a good thing, but unfortunately legalisation will not bring the lower end of the market out of the gutter. Still, would be nice to read Harpers Weekly while youre waiting, rather than Crustacean Weekly.

Clarkey
Banning something makes it harder to control. Providing it's regulated, controlled and safe - legalised prositution should show a reduction in STI's and crime may likely show a decline
Charlotte
If people really need to pay to have sex with a crack whore then yes it should be legalised. Look at Holland for example, it's done well, the girls are safe and looked after.

Assuming that it is now legalised.....perhaps one will find adverts for hookers at the local job center....being a legitimate means of earnings..... Assuming that it is now legalised.....perhaps one will find adverts for hookers at the local job center....being a legitimate means of earnings..... Now on this one I will disagree.. (here we go *grin*)... yes there is an element of exploitation at the lower end of the range, however in some cases the women choose the have that life style to further their goals..I don't agree with it, however it is a choice made. Society is based on the explotation.... sad but true, people use people.... My clothes for example are probably made by cheap labour, however I will happily pay for them ignoring this sad fact. By regulation of it, you can limit the level of exploitation.. prohibition of things only causes a bigger underground following.

Assuming that it is now legalised.....perhaps one will find adverts for hookers at the local job center....being a legitimate means of earnings..... People are going to do it no matter what. Most girls that do that have massive drug habits. All of the girls that have been killed so far were normal girls, sometimes single parents that had fallen to Heroin. I find it puzzling that some people are so desperate for sex they will sleep with someone that really isn't actually there.

And how is this lifestyle an acceptable one..... In that case Drugs should also be legalised... Drug Trafficking as well... and other forms of organised crime including murders... I'm not sure there is a big difference between sleeping with a prostitute and a one night stand.

DaveK
For both parties or just the bloke? For both. I assume you were talking about lack of emotional attachment, and that is true for both parties involved.
JustGav
And how is this lifestyle an acceptable one..... In that case Drugs should also be legalised... Drug Trafficking as well... and other forms of organised crime including murders... Okay, how about a woman who stays with a man because he buys her everything, you know the sort... there is no love and she will admit this to her friends, however she will stay for the money... In this fictious example, wouldn't that make her a prostitute in the strictest sense of word? I've known a girl who was an 'escort', high price tag style one. She had an exclusive set of men who I will add were well off business men. She didn't have a drug problem, however she didn't want to work the 9-5 job, and she enjoyed the money she earned. While I didn't ever agree with choice of job.. you wouldn't have known any different if I had introduced you to her.

It depends on what you are talking about by a one night stand. Most one night stands are longer than a one hour sess with a prostitute. In this fictious example, wouldn't that make her a prostitute in the strictest sense of word? Weird parallel you have drawn there......Are you calling gold diggers prostitutes then? Is she loyal to her man or sleeping around with many men? I've known a girl who was an 'escort', high price tag style one. She had an exclusive set of men who I will add were well off business men. She didn't have a drug problem, however she didn't want to work the 9-5 job, and she enjoyed the money she earned. While I didn't ever agree with choice of job.. you wouldn't have known any different if I had introduced you to her. Questions 1) Is this the norm for MOST prostitutes or just a select few (elite ones) cause it seems fairly organised / safe - whatever you want to call it. 2) That being the case, why legalise it? 3) If I'd have asked her what her line of work was, wouldn't that have been a give away.... In hindsight, I should have hidden the votes - cause perhaps a lot more people would have voted.
