JODY T
We are looking to attend Ten of the Best next year. One of the favourite events for the Supra is to be in the top 5 is the top speed run. However, Supras (Being frameless Coupes) have been known to pop there glass over 190mph.. Obviously we need to find a solution and was wondering if anybody knew or could point me in the direction of information about and internal and external semi sealed environment pressure differences and the ups and downs of differnent methods.. Ie Event into the car, Sealing the cabin etc.. One way we thought of is changing the doors for the day, and pot riviting and sealing lexan windows to the body, and using the hatch for acess.. Any educated information greatly recieved..

D3xt3r
I wouldnt worry about it over here we have many supras that see around 190mph or more pretty often and none had problems with their screens.
JohnA
Windows down create a LOT of drag. Expect to lose quite a bit of top speed if you do that.

Gaz Walker
I wouldn't worry about building the car to that spec, Supras and TOTB just don't go together, with most either breaking before they get there or on the day, quite early on However, CRD did 201 or 202 with FRP doors and lexan windows which are floppy as hell and they were fine. Gaz.

Is that the run on the TOTB vid where you can see it all bending out of shape and then the VCR gives up as the forces involved are actually pulling the tape away from the recording head. That was mental.
michael
I wouldn't worry about it, the days of full length speed runs at Elvington are over, concentrate on traction and gearing to make the most of a 1/2 mile top speed run.
imi
I wouldn't worry about it, the days of full length speed runs at Elvington are over, How come? Have they shortened the run or something?
michael
How come? Have they shortened the run or something? Not yet but I reckon it's coming thanks to the noise / fun police.
Syed Shah
Jody - where did you get that information?! I have NEVER heard it before. A Supra has been to 225mph on stock glass no problems.
Kopite
The top speed run was already reduced this year wasn't it? 1 mile only now?
Lucifer
Interesting comments guys.

Gaz. Gaz i think CRD ran the Lexan windows and FRP doors as part of thier weight saving program and nothing to do with stress on the Stock glass - could be wrong though, but its a lot easier smashing and ripping a Front screen out than trying to smash it in thriough the car

I don't think you'd have any problems with pressure. As Michael pointed out, getting that kind of speed in UK competitions is slim to no chance, Elvo was one of the best places to do it however next year you will be lucky if its still 1.25 mile. Some of the V-max events have 1.5m runs at Brunters. Most other places are very private and you'd need connections to get in there (various RAF Bases, Pro-drive, Aston Martin, Millbrook etc all have 2 mile+ straights) Gaz.
