Polemarch
I have a 100% stock GZ and want a couple of minor mods to boost the power a bit. I'm not looking to do anything overly complex and don't want it to sound like a rocket engine. I've been thinking of a single decat to keep the car ok for the MOT (hopefully) but give me a slight boost in power. What are your opinions and what is involved? Can I do this myself or do I need a mechanic? Do I need anything else to go with it and what difference will it make to my car? thanks
Thorin
You could do it yourself it's not difficult, although some of the bolts can be a bastard to undo. Realistically a single decat on the stock exhaust is not going to see any real noticable gains IMO. Fit a decent aftermarket cat back exhaust, FCD, and boost controller (if you still want to keep one cat) to up the boost to 1.2bar if needed. You may also then need some colder plugs and a replacement fuel pump wouldn't be a bad idea (UK spec or walbro).
Polemarch
Thanks for that. Next question then would be: How much would that sort of upgrade (the whole lot) cost and is there somewhere that can do it all, fit and test it in one go? I live in Bristol so somewhere near(ish) would be helpful. What kind of improvement would I see with this? Thanks.
Thorin
FCD = £90 Set of plugs = £60 Walbro pump = £90 Decat pipes = £200 (for the pair) Cat back exhaust = £500 Keeping one cat you'd probably hit around 0.9-1.0 bar, then if you wanted to raise the boost to 1.2 you could either fit a bleed valve for a few pence or a electronic boost controller costing anything upto around £200-300 I guess. If you get rid of both cats it will over-boost by itself and you'll just need a restrictor ring to keep it down to safe levels. Very approximate prices and somebody will probably come along and correct me. I believe mkivstore.com do a BPU package fitted for £1300 but it's certainly availble for a fair bit less if you shop around for parts separately second hand, fit stuff yourself etc.
Thorin
What kind of improvement would I see with this? Forgot about that bit. Realistically at 1.2 bar you'll see around 380-400BHP at the crank. For reference mine made 393BHP (estimated) at Well Lane.
Polemarch
Most of those parts I've never even heard of so I assume a professional fitting would be advisable? Will I need to do any adjustment longterm or once it is set up should it stay stable?
R Black
There are pictures on how to fit most things on this site, if you do a search, if you can service your own car? i wouldd say you could fit most(if not all) bpu parts. Oh and the car should be stable after its all fitted, although i've heard of people having to play around with their restrictor ring.
Polemarch
If I wanted to get the lot done is there anybody in Bristol that you would recomend? Would this make it bpu?
Homer
If I wanted to get the lot done is there anybody in Bristol that you would recomend? Would this make it bpu? If you're based in Bristol then it would make sense to contact mkivstore.com. They can offer the service and fit to your specification, they're based in Thornbury. You could fit the parts yourself and make a considerble saving. Its not difficult at all.

Homer
I wouldn't deal with Supra Scam (ahem... store), those prices are not good at all considering the exchange rate. In fact you can get several for much less in the UK! Run some of those past the usual traders here (Envy, Miami-GT, MVP...), I bet they can do a better deal (and you won't get hit for import tax either).
