DaveK
Previously I've used the original Origin Blue i in the 964. It was very good - but it stopped updating a few months ago, and the speaker seems to have died. So I bought Road Angel Plus - it's all in one so easy to swap between cars, and even though it's technically illegal I wanted laser detection. Which is just as well. Because - apparently - there is a "police safety camera van" on every bloody street in Camberley, although they must be using stealth technology because I still haven't actually seen one. And it feels the need to tell me this even if I'm not speeding. I've only been using it two days - and only covered about 30 miles in that time - and it's annoyed the hell out of me already. Looks like laser detection will probably be switched off - in which case, I might move it somewhere slightly more discreet in the car. Next time - I will buy one WITHOUT laser detection! imi
Road Angel is fantastic. The Laser Detection isnt.....
silvershark44
If people around you are using laser jammers/diffusers on their cars it will set your road angel off. I was parked up on a street at night once, and this fully modded evo 8 ripped past me and set the road angel off. i found out later it was becuase the guy uses a laser diffuser/ jammer. So it could be that, or it could just be fooked!
uk-rich
diffusers/jammers only work when they detect a laser, not all the time
downimpact
I didn't think this was illegal yet (government still talking about it) ? If so how are road angel still selling them ?
DaveK
I saw a link somewhere last week (can't remember if it was here or the Porsche forum) which showed they were illegal. It's often the case that it's illegal to use things but not to buy them. The ipod transmitters were illegal to use - but not buy - although someone told me they are legal to use now. Laser jammers / diffusers are illegal to use - but you can buy them.

DaveK
What about this ? http://www.speedsafe.co.uk/product.php?pg=brands&id=421 :search: One of the reasons I went for the Road Angel Plus was because the 964 doesn't really have anywhere I could mount that kind of detector. Air cooled car = no radiator grill.
Kittyclaws
You will find that your Road Angel will start going mad when a Taxi goes passed, which will tell you that he has more than just a rad behind his front grill. No probs with mine
Graham S
Never had any problems with mine either, or maybe thats because i never actually get any signal on it and its always 'searching for signal'. At the moment when it does work the time is an hour fast too...
Ric
if a mobile camera is in the same position very frequently roadangel database providers will place the camera as a fixed item in the GPS logs. Although your roadangel will show it as a mobile site. Just to make sure they pick it up, even tho they arnt there my snooper does it. as they all use the same database. TT-DEK
If it warns you of Risk zones / blackspots / schools its classed as a saftey device, therefore not illegal? The laser sound? just turn it down?

You can adjust the time in the settings - mine was initially one hour out as well.
Seb
To the best of my knowledge they haven't yet passed the laser detector law. They tried to put it through earlier this year so all the detector companies went nuts about producing speed camera detectors without laser alerts, but the government took too long deciding the particulars so it didn't go through in time and now they have to wait until next year, hence why you can buy a Road Angel Plus. If someone has that link I'd like to see it. Oh, and my Road Angel II has laser alert but it's never gone off, so don't know why the Plus is going nuts. They said that after a 3rd reading in the house of commons the use of laser detectors was illegal - and it was expected to become law in mid November. But perhaps it didn't. My mum just bought my dad one for christmas, will let you know what its like if i can steal it off him for a bit, She got the navigator 6000 from halfords for a bargain 169.99, everywhere else seems to be at least 200, It looks a good bit of kit and the bird in halfords said its one of the best on the market, and has the camera database in it too, aparantly you can get a mobile camera detector for it to. DaveK
After going out today, I've discovered that it's not actually the laser detection that's going off. The "police safety camera" is actually the fixed gatso's - it must be warning me of cameras in the surrounding area even though I've got the distance set to the minimum. Have turned off the annoying beeping and will see how I get on with just the voice warnings.
imi
Have turned off the annoying beeping and will see how I get on with just the voice warnings. I know what you mean, and the beeping is not just loud but very high pitched so extremely annoying. You do have to go through all the options (and the interface sucks bigtime) and turn off some or most of those warnings..
