HD vs DV

It's interesting to see, but I'm not convinced by his capture methods and use of different apps to bicubic resize etc.. Only way to properly compare is by pulling the actual digital code, which you can only do if you have a bluray player or HD DVD. (Dell laptops are starting to ship with bluray I noticed.)

Clearly HD DVD/blu ray is far superior to DVD due to the resolution difference alone. Blue-ray isn't meant to be as good as HD HVD though.

Not movies but there's lots of HDTV (1080i) TV shows on alt.binaries.hdtv

A single episode episode of the Sopranos is like 4.5GB

:(
You have broadband, right? Just start it off before you go to bed, it'll probably be finished by the morning or at the very worst by the time you get home from work.

I think the whole HDTV thing is still in limbo, with various standards yet to be established.

Myself I went for an intermediate solution until full high-rez becomes widespread and HD programs become really available.

I went for a 42" plasma, 1024x728 panel, where SD signals look OK and HD signals look good.

By shelling out no more than a grand I won't have reservations to buy a full-rez panel 2-3 years later, after blue-ray (or whatever) players and disks are aplenty and cheap.

As for now, everything is still SD, who are we kidding now...
