Oh boy... I've got some work ahead of me. *Looks at watch* Do I have the time right now I wonder...

Where to start.

Ed, I have to congratulate you on your tenacity and dedication to adhere to current conspiracy theory principles. Was the moon landing a fraud? J/k. :D

I love your snapshot with crayon editing.

Re: As mentioned above, if you view the vid from the different sites I posted, you'll see the ground track shadow, which I must reiterate as mentioned above, is consistent with the topography and vegitation in the foreground.

Re: Yes, you are partially correct sir. All aircraft produce EXHAUST. Smoke however does not come from High-Bypass engines like the CFM-56 engines on all KC-135R/C-135CFs and most new airliners. The pictures you provided of the older B-52s are excellent by the way. Those engines are older water-injection TF-33s. The E-3 AWACS that I fly on and current B-52s utilize non-water injection TF-33s and don't smoke nearly as much. This was done to reduce visual pick ups by enemy interceptor aircraft. They're also quieter.

Re: The paint is MATT on purpose. You don't want the sun to reflect off the paint. Makes it easier for the enemy to see you at a distance from sun reflection. Did you know that a mirror flash/sun reflection from the ground can be seen on a clear day by an aircraft at 30,000 feet from 100 miles away? Put one in your pack when you go hiking. Tankers are always being repainted and they are the dullest looking airplanes in the Air Force generally. If you pause the low-quality video in the right spot (one or two frames either side of the snapshot) you'll see the small crest on the tail.

Re: As for your dust theory, I don't know what to tell you. I'm no meteorologist so I don't know what the prevailing weather conditions were on that day, but I'll say it looked like a great day for flying. :D

I don't have sound on this computer, but I've listened to this vid several times. The sounds and climbout performance are also consistent with that of a KC-135R.

Can I have my beer now? :search:

ok, Mike, I stand by my original beliefs and am still convinced that its not a real video, however, your superior knowledge of aircraft, aeronautics and aircraft systems is so overwhelming I am willing to accept defeat in recognition of international friendship.

Your general knowledge on all things flying and ability to show superior facts is,... well,...if I'm honest,... starting to arouse me ;)

I you sir.

I love your snapshot with crayon editing.

Bloody nice that is!. :(

8 years at college studying Graphic Design at ND and HND level and I get a comment like "crayon editing"! :p

My best mates Dad is an ex RAF pilot, flys freight now. He is probably the most sensible guy in the world yet he talks about what pilots in the RAF could do with planes you wouldnt think were possible to do them in.

Yup just ask the poor chap that had his head ripped off by a hercules a few years ago. What was he doing you ask? He was standing on a vehicle trying to touch the bottom of the herc whilst it did a low level fly past, a trick they used to pull on new guys to a unit on a regular basis just this time the pilot was a couple of feet too low. I've witnessed the SF hercs taking off from Afghanistan when I was there and they quite literally pop off the ground a foot or so, lift the undercarriage and stay at that height. A lot of military cargo and passenger pilots are the not very happy with not being fast jet pilot types. Having been in and seen what the RAF do in Chinooks for donkeys years, and the fact that the french are considerably less proffessional than our airforce I can well beleive that vid is real.

Great vid Ed. I see the dust. That is in Oman, which is much more of a dry sand desert than Chad. Although, that is from a jet fighter which generates a different type of thrust vs a heavy aircraft with the high-bypass turbofans. Also, the altitude is considerably less. Those guys are nuts.

Re: Vortices' - Small tornados generated off the wing tips of an aircraft during all phases of flight. Biggest factor for separation distance of aircraft and how long in between take off and landings. Search "Wake Turbulence" - Cause of several major aircraft crashes. The larger the aircraft, the larger and more violent the vortices'. This will be a huge issue with the new Airbus A380.
