CJ
I think this one may be better addressed to the trader chaps. I am looking for the socket to release the wheel nuts on the Volks Super Advan wheels. I also need a single wheel nut too. Anyone able to help or point me in the right direction? Jake
Is this the same the Volk Advan wheels the other guy posted about earlier? Seems rather a coincidence. Anyhoo, how about a close up pic of the problem wheel nut type? It may help a lot, can't hurt anyway.

They are one and the same Jake (I wish he had told me that he had posted ) I sold the chap the car but did not check this. I understand Gaz Walker has had the wheels off before so maybe he can shed some light on it.

But seeing as I am trying to find a socket to remove a wheel etc what makes you think that I have any idea as to where to find the one you have lost? jeremyh
As requested, here are some pictures that should help. http://81.149.22.169/misc/16122006.jpg http://81.149.22.169/misc/16122007.jpg http://81.149.22.169/misc/16122008.jpg http://81.149.22.169/misc/16122009.jpg http://81.149.22.169/misc/16122010.jpg http://81.149.22.169/misc/16122011.jpg As you can see, the nuts themselves are not tapered, it's the 'groove' that the nuts are sitting in. CJ is on the case for me, but if anybody else can help I would really appreciate it. Jez
garethr
Thin-wall socket, maybe?

I spoken to our tyre fitted and he can't remember if he used anything special on those. A fully equiped garaged should be able to get them off though! Gaz. jeremyh
I took the Supra to a Hi-Q garage - are they classed as a 'fully-equipped garage' though? They didn't have anything suitable for removing those nuts, so I am going under the assumption that something more specific would be needed. I was surprised that they felt they needed "something special" as Turbofit fitted the wheels to the car and didn't mention anything. I will have a word with them later and see if they used a special tool.
jeremyh
I'm just back from Halfords, and bought myself a 19mm socket for the princely sum of £5.49 , it looked like a fairly thin-walled socket but simply does not fit. As far as I can see, 19mm is the right size as the socket goes on the nut about 5mm and then stops. It just seems to me that some sort of tapered socket must have been used to put them on in the first place.
uk-rich
if you are really stuck, can you get the socket machined down ?
jeremyh
That's exactly what I was thinking of - can I use some sort of file/angle grinder or something to file down the sides of the socket? Anyone done this before? CJ is still on the case for me , but I am desperate to get my Supra back on the road next week!
uk-rich
i machined a deep socket for my alloys, but i did it on a lathe, it will be much more tricky with a grinder (to keep the wall thickness the same)
