DArby
Had the bonnet up today - rare occurance... Up in the top right above the brake system, is a black box with 3 pipes going into it - brake pipes i assume. As i went to close the bonnet (it had been open for about 1hr) - i could here this fast fairly quite ticking sound. If i wiggled one of the pipes it stopped. I gave everything a wiggle and could stop it, but as soon as i let go it started again. Theres no leaks visible, cracks/breaks etc.... Any help appreciated. Dean.. (UK car by the way)
Guest Martin F
Sounds like the Carbon cannister to me. Black with three hoses going in the top. It's supposed to filter off noxious emmisions from a few places, one of them being petrol fumes from the tank. Not sure why it should be ticking though, unless it was just very hot, what with the recent weather. Anybody else know why it ticked ? Phil Wall
Dean Toyota intended the UK cars to be main dealer service only. You are not supposed to open the bonnet. The sound you heard was the service charge meter as it calculated the bill you receive at the end of each service.
Paul Booth
and while we're all in a silly mood.... you stop it by turning up the radio/CD player
Guest Ash
That's normal, they do make a tick-ticking noise occasionally. It's just venting pressure back from the fuel-tank through a one-way valve. Depending on actual pressure-differentials this valve can sometimes tend to flutter. Yours, J
Paul Booth
Is this a UK spec thing only? My fuel cap sometimes jumps off into my hand when I unscrew it.
Guest Ash
No, both the J-spec and UK-spec have the same system. A little pressure in the tank is normal too. Yours, J
