wkdtime
http://www.bradfordcityfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/HistoryDetail/0,,10266~91637,00.html I knew nothing of this until today during my fire and safety training at BA, i was a few years old when it happened. We watched the security video of what happened. Very distrubing. Here's a video of it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lilxaOIkKHI Caution, some images are distrubing. (Edit-Maybe wise to move to NWS) oops, just noticed the typo error with the thread title.

Max Headroom
I was waiting to fly out to the Falkland Islands, watched it in the Departure lounge of Brize Norton airfield in shocked silence.
merckx
Why does it take something like this to happen before they realise the dangers. Same with the Kings Cross fire. Both caused by rubbish building up under a wooden structure with members of the public smoking above.
Pot
I remember hearing about that (I was 6 back then), I remember Hillsborough more, but that's due to me watching it live on TV (I'm an LFC fan) - It's a good thing that nowadays the whole crowd safety issue's been stepped up, as gladly things like that don't happen anymore... loks
I remember it very well. I was actually at Huddersfield that day watching Portsmouth win 2-0 (I think) in the final match of the season.... anyways, we find out there is a problem when one of my mates got arrested for D&D in the ground but couldn't be wisked away to the local nick... Due to the fact that all the meat wagons had been called away to be used as ambulances in Bradford... Sad day for footie.
Jake
Never seen that before. That poor guy on fire, just walking along. Weird. I wonder if he survived. I notice that one of the players was called Shipperley. I wonder if he's related to our own WhiteSupraBoy2, he's a Shipperley and his cousin Neil Shipperley is still a pro footballer with Sheffield Utd. Green Peace
I remember that well...amazed at the bravery that was shown in that video..so many people trying to help others (risking their lives in the process) and that guy who was on fire, what gets me is its in realtime virtually (timecode is left on to show how quick it all happened i guess), the speed that it took to completely engulf half the stadium was quite shocking. Like ya say on the Kings Cross Disaster shame it has to take an event like that to improve safey standards...im sure although a long time ago now...it's something you just cant forget bit like 9/11 or the Iranian Embassy siege, News images that will be burnt on the valves of our minds forever sad to say. Elliot
Never seen that before. That poor guy on fire, just walking along. Weird. I wonder if he survived. I found that really strange too, the way he just walked along. Was he in too much shock to realise he was in flames? Quite shocking really. grahamc
dont remember it, as I was in South Africa, and 6 at the time, but shocking. there are still so many things that could/should be improved and just havent, because of costs. The tubes for example.
R3DG3CKO ROB
I don't remember it happening but we were shown it at our fire training too. The marshals had chained the entrances shut to stop people coming in after the game had started, so they all ran down the tunnels to escape and got stuck... by the time the people pushing from the back had realized it was blocked, the fire had trapped loads of people in the tunnel. The guy leading the fire training was saying that the guy on fire would have actually been dead by that point, his body was just in shock from the nerve damage. Horrific... all because of a load of rubbish...
