far
If I was a crook I would: 1) THE ENGAGEMENT RING SCAM Have two attractive posh looking female friends go drinking in a local pub, get one to pretend she has lost her diamond engagement ring worth 5k and ensure most of the drinkers in the pub hear about it Get her to leave her mobile number with the barman and tell him she will pay him 1k cash if anyone hands it in Walk into pub yourself with a mate 10 mins later, have a drink or two at the bar and pretend to pick up an imitation diamond ring from the floor near the bar man, offer to sell it to him for £200 cash Imitation diamond ring price £10, PROFIT = £190 Barman buys it from you thinking its worth 5k to (A) Sell it on to a 3rd party (B) Sell it back to the girl for 1k Repeat exercise in various geographics. Bar man wont report to police as he has tried to scam you - but it’s him who has been scammed! 2) PHONE LINE SCAM 61187868114 Set up a premium rate phone number Ask all your mates to call it once a day from work Get attractive friends from scam1 to approach random men and say they have lost their phone and need to call home to get picked up - get them to call premium rate number from 3rd party’s phone Repeat exercise in various geographics 3) CHINESE SWISS POSH WATCH SCAM This is an old one Set up trade link in China and get them to make an extremely expensive looking watch name it something posh Get watch photographed professionally and an equally posh looking advert designed Publish the advert in all the glossy mens magazines (eg GQ etc....) and advertise the watch at retail price of £999 Hire a suitably posh car (if one is not owned already) Pull up punters in the street and explain to them you are the sales rep for 'xyz watch manufacturer' and have two 'demo' watches left over from a sales presentation you have just done in Harrods,Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser etc....show them the Glossy advert in GQ and the exact watch they are looking at Sell watch for £100 explaining you are just wanting some beer money and are leaving the company next week. Punter thinks they are buying an expensive Swiss watch, its proven as it’s advertised in a posh glossy for £999 - what they really get is a $20 Chinese metal wristband! Repeat exercise across various geographics ...........but of course these are just scams which have no relation to me and I have got the info from various other documentaries and internet sites. : Innocent: I do not condone such behavior and would never suggest anyone repeating any of the above in real life as it is dishonest and mean. Earn your money the hard way by working!
RedM
Setting up the third scam would cost you more than you'd ever make from the watches.
JohnA
These are old and tired scams. Hell, two of them have even been filmed in BBC3's "the real hustle" Is that the best you can do?
Daston
The best one I heard about was from my grandad. A guy years ago used to go into Roles Royce dealers and would order a Phantom with all the trimmings and extras, he would pay the deposit and then say that he is off to spain for a few weeks and get them to call his secutary with the registration details so he can arrange insurance for when he comes back. The guy would insure the car and then after a few weeks report it stolen. Sure enough the police couldnt find it (who would look in a dealership?) and the guy gets a massive pay out. Unfortunatly he tried the same thing in the next dealer up the road and just on the off chance the dealer called around asking if there was a car to that spec (of course the first dealer still had the phantom) they then twigged what he did. tbourner
Can't see the engagement ring one working, the barman wouldn't pay you any money for it he'd just claim it was lost by someone and wouldn't let you out until you gave it to him (it's in his pub, it's his property). Daston's sounds good though!
Rob
It worked on the telly, he stumped up £50 from the till, of his employer's money, but he was trying to scam the scammers at the same time 'cos the girl on the 'phone said she'd give £200 as a reward and he told the guys it was £50.
