Pot
Obviously for DL'ing non-copyrighted stuff... But... I'm on a 10mb connection via Telewest, I regularly test my connection via the various sites on offer, and average around 9000kb/s. When downloading things from 'major sites' (Eg : Apple, Mankysoft, Mozilla) I hit between 300 to 1000kb/s on the downloads... But when I'm DL'ing off µTorrent, I can average 90-100kb/s (I know it depends on who you're DL'ing off), but the rest of my internet connection slows up big time. (My uploads sit between 30-40kb/s) - And now and again, the PC runs like it's an FTO too... Does anyone else have any experience of this, or is there a better torrent downloader to use?... Gamer
I use that program.... No problems here. I assume that your not limiting the upload speed in Utorrent. It is using all of your upload bandwidth as you probably have it set to unlimited. If your max upload speed is 40kb you should set the Utorrent max to no more then 20kb so you leave yourself some room to surf the web. Nice one, thanks, looking at the settings, it was set to 1120kb/s upload... lol - Now set to 20 - So I'll give that a go... On another note, I'm using Mininova atm, is there anywhere else you can recommend?...
colsoop
When downloading a torrent if there are several versions always choose the one with the most "Seeders" these are poeple with the complete file. Aye, there's way too many on Mininova with no seeders... I'll do some searching on google, just wondered if there were any that were recommended... Cheers! Im on BT 6mb (suppose to be 8 but line cant take it) and average at over 100kb/s. Gaz
Pot
Cheers, I'll take a look It's also worth nothing, since I've changed my upload speed, I'm now downloading at 300-400kb/s, which I haven't ever hit on uTorrent...

Ric
you need to limit the amount of connections you are making.. Thats why the rest of your internet connect is slowing down even though your only downloading at 100k/sec for example your contstantly trying to connect with other users sometimes over 400, and obviously your connection will suffer. Gamer
I use http://www.filelist.org but there is a waiting list to join. You need to keep above a certain ratio otherwise the torrents are time limited (if your ratio is very low you will have to wait up to 48 hours to start the download). This is a good system as it encourages people to upload so they maintain good ratio's. The result is you can download at maximum speeds. I normally get a 1.4GB movie in less then 2 hours. (On my home 8mb connection) Here are my stats for that site: Ratio: 3.088 Uploaded: 1.04 TB ( 0 ) Downloaded: 345.87 GB Although I must say I cheat a bit as I use my personal server housed in a data center on a 100mbit connection, hence my very generous upload ratio When using this to download I get 1.4gb in minutes
