lambertpig
am looking at an aristo tommorow. the owner is an enthusiast like our selves and was very upfront about the car he has told me that there is a small wisp of blue smoke on cold start up which disapears straight away.he has been told by garage nothing to worry atall that it is valve stem seals and that it would go for miles and miles without a look. i am aware of this issue with tt cars should i be worried ? how much is the job if it is needed at a later date? as the owner pointed out he could easily have hid the prob by starting before i arrived for a few seconds. JustGav
Insist on the engine being cold when you go to have a look at it?
Terminator
Good advice above. Valve stem seals are a common item to fail on the TT engine. I know some of my seals have failed and other are OK, some days I get the tell tale blue puff other days I get nothing. If you have the head taken off by a garage it will cost. However the seals can be replaced keeping the head in place using the rope trick.
