Gamer
I have a proper HD DVD player imported from the states Toshiba HD-XA1 http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvd/product.asp?model=hd-xa1 I buy proper HD DVD movies via E bay in the states and the quality and sound is outstanding. Far better then the picture from SKY HD or a SD DVD that is being upscaled.

When you say sound is better, how? or do you mean from Sky as All DVD and HD is Native 5.1 & 7.1 uncomressed right?

When I say proper I was comparing it to the latest DVD players that are available now that upscale the signal, not the Xbox HD DVD. As for sound quality the player uses Dolby TrueHD among other methods. http://www.dolby.com/consumer/technology/trueHD.html Dolby® TrueHD is Dolby’s next-generation lossless technology developed for high-definition disc-based media. Dolby TrueHD delivers tantalizing sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master, unlocking the true high-definition entertainment experience on next-generation discs. When coupled with high-definition video, Dolby TrueHD offers an unprecedented home theater experience that lets you enjoy sound as stunning as the high-definition picture. Features 100 percent lossless coding technology. Up to 18 Mbps bit rate. Supports up to eight full-range channels of 24-bit/96 kHz audio.* Supported by High-Definition Media Interface (HDMI™), the new single-cable digital connection for audio and video. Supports extensive metadata including dialogue normalization and dynamic range control.

Pete
I'll give this a miss for another year yet I think. It's still all in its infancy unless you pay big bucks.

leelbuk
Don't know if everyone knows this but a new update of the 360 Dashboard went live last week. It now allows to share videos from a pc and from a USB drive and play them directly on the xbox 360. I have set up sharing on my PC and I can share a HD video from my PC and the xbox will play it over the network and in 1080P too! No need to pay for that HD drive (unless it plays Blu-ray as I haven't read up on it), I just stick the DVD in the PC and it plays over network and looks very nice on my LCD in full DD 7.1 too. Anyone else tried this?

leelbuk
I was looking at that update. are you saying you no longer need mediaplayer extender running? I just connected to Xbox Live - xbox 360 reported there was an unpdate for the xbox and if I didn't install the update I'd be booted off of live. Installed update and now if I go to the Video option on the Media tab I can now load videos off of a portable USB device such as a memeory stick and I can also connect to any PC running Media Centre OR Plain XP Pro/Home which you couldn't do before. Just wack files from your PC into a shared folder on your PC which is setup for you automatically (go to www.xbox.com/pcsetup and run the Media Connect installer - no windows validation req'd) and thats it - you PC shows on the xbox 360 and you can just load MP3s, WMA and WMV (all WMVs of any resolution including 720p, 1080i and 1080p) Full game or demo? Full game mate - defo the best game out at the moment.
