OK, an import has say 100,000 km when it's shipped into the UK, what happens when it's converted to miles, is the odo wound back to show miles, like about 62,000 ?

It depends. Either they'll do that, or it'll be left reading in kms, or it will be converted to count up in miles from that point (making it awkward to work out the mileage).

Very rarely the former, usually the latter or just left to continue clocking up in kilometres.

so if the odometer is left to read in km, does it have a feed which is independant to the speedo because what happens if you put in a converter to swich the speedo to miles?

My odometer reads in miles but still has KM legend, which can easily be changed, to change the overall reading e'g wind back so in correct UK miles can be done but its expensive
