God bless the principle of moments. For anyone remotely interested, we inclined her yesterday, and she was well within the original design limits for stability. This involves a pendulum, and four racks of lead weights, each weighing a tonne. The weights are positioned as far fwd and aft as possible, one on 'each corner', as far outboard as possible. The weights are moved from one side to the other and back again in shifts, and the resulting heel or list is measured off the pendulum swing. If the displacement is known, these measurements can be used to calculate the VGC and righting moments etc of the vessel. Essentially a test to ensure the boat wont capsize under full load, or with its tanks empty and with a party going on on the skydeck as such. Thanks for listening, I just had to tell someone:)

so tell me, how the hell do you get to do a job like that? :)

Naval architect...

usually a degree, placement, then keep your nose clean and work your way up through a few companies and if you are lucky you get to be known and desirable.

I did it the other way, apprenticeship (boat builder), night school, read lots of books, lots of application forms then a lucky break. Then I kept my nose clean, absorbed the knowledge from older wiser ones than I, and one day I was asked if I fancied a bit more responsibility. I took it on and went from there.

Styling and design....

Basically the same, although you need a bit of flair to get noticed. Again, luck plays a big part as oportunities are rare and if you get one and it goes down well, you will probably be asked to carry on.

Is that all? I'll put a deposit cheque in the post, but I want it with a car-hoist on the back so I can take the Supra with me, rather than get a hire car when I'm moored up in Monaco.

Not a problem Chris. 6m x 4m garage in the back. Mention my name when you do the deal, I could do with the finders fee:)
